Dont really know if this is the place to post this, just need a bit of an idea from as many people as possible:

How much do you spend on gas and electric every month? I have just bought a house and am wanting other peoples information so that i can get a view not just of my families expenditure?

Which companies would you recommend?

Thanks

The national average bill for gas is around 40 pounds per month and around 28 pounds or electricity.

There is an electricity costs poll in a sticky at the top of the gas & electricity forum, or click here.

You will need to register with the current supplier to the property and give them readings when you move in, whoever you decide to use.

Use a site such as energyhelpline to calculate a rough guide to your consumption and identify a reasonable deal.
  • dont know if anyone can help... is it cheaper to run electrical items such as washing machines and tumble dryers at night ??

Only if you are on an economy 7 tariff. Most people have a single rate tariff unless they have storage heaters, as daytime electricity is more expensive on economy 7 which negates the benefit of the cheap night rate.
  • !!!!!!, so i`ve been wasting my time staying up to put machines on then lol
    thanks anyway

I live in a 2 bedroom house on my own and am out at work all day and I pay 38 pound a month for electricity and gas combined (£19 each). This was reduced from 60 pound i was paying as I was in so much credit.

There are just two of us in a three bedroomed terraced house (should be warmer) and our cost are £40 per month each for gas & electric.

I have an electric oven, gas central heating. I have a tumble drier but rarely use it. We don't leave anything on standby.

Someone down the road to me has a bill of about £70 and £50 respectively so that makes our seem cheap.
