BT internet usage

I got an email from BT in the middle of last month saying I had used over 8 gb of my 10 gb allowance, then later I got an email saying I had used over the 10 gb and they would be charging me an extra £5.60.
I phoned to dispute this as my average usage was 4.76 gb per month and I certainly had used no more than usual. The call wasn't really helpful and I left it but then received another email to say they were charging the £5.60.
I phoned again today and after getting told to phone the number again and ask for billing I spoke to someone who looked into it and reckoned the hub was to blame (I'm assuming they aren't talking about my hub but don't really know).
I spoke about this on another forum I belong to and exactly the same had happened to a lady there.
I know £5.60 isn't that much but it's my money not theirs.
Just waiting for the bill to come although the chap did say that if it was on the bill to phone again!!!!!!!!!!!!

It may be on the bill but you don't get charged the £5-60 on the due date .
Hub possible but usual is that for some reason you actually used that amount .As you don't know what you actually used it will be difficult if it happens again .
You need to keep an eye on your usage that is why BT have a monitor on your My BT page .0 -

Yes, I check my usage now.
All I do on the internet, is read and post on a few forums. Don't think I download anything. I do use photobucket to put pictures up but that's about all. They first said it was on a Saturday evening and I wasn't on the computer then.
Don't use i player or sky on demand. I don't even use bt sport to watch anything. Still waiting for them to gives us infinity so I can watch it on the television. Don't even know if that makes sense! lol0 -

It might be for downloading Windows Updates. What package are you on and how much do you pay for it per month? Looking at BT's website, the 10GB package is £5 and the unlimited is £7.50 for new customers. I would go for the unlimited und never need to worry again about dowloads.
If you can't get that price from BT, consider switching to another ISP like Plusnet, which is owned by BT.0 -
Thank you Tronator
To be honest I don't know how much we pay for broadband.
I did consider changing in May when our contract was due for renewal but kept it because they did a fairly good deal and at the time I wanted to be able to watch BT sport on the television but that didn't happen because we can't get it here. We don't have Sky.
I think I will change next time though. I'm absolutely useless with technology talk anf can't understand why I need BT Infinity to watch sport on the telly. Also would that use up my internet time too. Really confused lol.0 -
We pay £13 but on the last bill we were charged £8.64 for broadband and calls.
The more I look into it the more confused I get!0 -
BT Sport is not on the telly .
Its a service that comes over the internet not the aerial .
BT TV Starter is free and does not need Infinity .

I'm even more confused now. I thought you could get BT Sport on TV if you had a sky box (we don't) and they were changing it so more people could use it. Just shows you what talking to BT can do. No wonder I'm confused I think they must have been telling me a few porkies.0

The BT Sport channels are broadcast by satellite from 28E, just like the "Sky" and Freesat channels. People with satellite receiving equipment pointed at 28E (normally a sky box) can get access to those channels at a discounted or zero rate if they get broadband from BT Internet.BT Sport is not on the telly .
