Squeaking from front left wheel

Hey peeps I've just had my car (52 plate Zafira) in for new disks and pads but after getting it back it seems the left front wheel sometimes squeaks louder than a mouse in cheese heaven, I've took both front wheels off to see if its the brakes or the pads, was told it could be dirt or dust, they have been cleaned by me but this did nothing, but when I rotate the left disk it makes a squeak and low grinding noise come from further down the arm, I've stook my head under and its not coming from my disks, could this be the wheel bearings? Or something else

This doesn't happen all the time and never for the first five minutes of driving, it can squeak when turning or going straight or both, but after awhile it does stop and start up later, my problem is getting to the garage to get it sorted as its a fair distance and would require a day of work and some money I'd guess, what are your thoughts? And maybe a price for what you guys could think this is as I've read on here upto £300

    Is the wheel spinning freely?
If it's not coming from the pads, what area is it coming from? Wheel area or drive shaft?
You've checked they've not bent the backing plate or something daft haven't you?

Definately a squeak? and not a clicking or a grinding or a humming or something else?
  • It's a squeak while drive a very high pitched one that would make dogs run when it gets really bad, sounds to be coming from closer to the engine when I spin the disk, idk much about cars but its from the metal pipe behind it that goes inside I think

I thought it was the disk or pads as most if the time it's in sync with the wheels rotation when it's not bad, but can get so bad it squeaks all the time on rotation
  • Oh I forgot one last thing which is makes me confused even more, it stop squeaking when I brake, if I brake lightly it can still squeak just nowhere near as bad, which is why I thought it was the brakes

it could be the back plate on the brakes has been bent and is now touching the disc/caliper.

If you've had it in a garage for the brakes to be done, take it back and get them to check.
I don't like morning people. Or mornings. Or people.
  • I blame Margaret Thatcher.

It's the pad not retracting fully, probably due to some corrosion and grot in the calipers. Thick disc, thick pad, so full retraction needed.

Once the pad wears down a bit, it'll go away. The ultimate cure will be new calipers or, as a stop-gap, a lot of time and effort with scrapers and files.
