    The last few properties we've offered on:

    280k asking, we were outbid offering 305k.
    240 asking, we were outbid offering 248k.
    280k asking, we were outbid offering 288k
    320k asking, we offered 320k, they asked for more, we said we'll see our financial advisor in 2 days. They said ok, then had an offer 'way over' and didn't want to wait for us to find our limit.

    Yep Newbury is booming. Lovely high street, good transport into London and a subtle hint of snobbery which attracts the wealthy.

    If you can swallow your pride buy in Thatcham. It has a bad reputation but things will change. Closer to Reading for the Crossrail and only a few minutes from Newbury.

    How's this for value?

    I would:

    1. gazump the gazumper (if there is one) so that they get a taste of their own medicine and the EA wets his pants thinking he's on big commission;

    2. procrastinate for a few months until other buyers (if there are any) are looking elsewhere;

    3. gazunder to my original offer late in proceedings;

    4. walk away if necessary :D.

    What goes around comes around, and you won't lose money either because all the searches and solicitor's are still with the same property.

    Why would you need to sign another AST surely best to leave it to go to a periodic tenancy?

    I had thought about doing this. If more properties come on the market it would certainly be an option!

    We're in a houseshare of 3 (me, missus, friend) that comes to the end of a fixed term in mid September. The friend wants to move out which would end the tenancy and make us look for a new place.
