Insurance for problems during a medical procedure?

Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible to take out insurance to cover possible problems/death during a surgical medical procedure? To clarify, this is from the perspective of the patient.

Thanks.

What cover would you want for it going wrong but you not dying? Just income replacement or some form of lump sum above that?

I am not aware of any specific products for it but for death and income replacement then normal Life and PHI would provide cover assuming you can get them to provide cover for the pre-existing condition

Obviously if its not just a complication but a mess up by the doctor then you/ your estate would have a right to claim compensation from them/ their insurers

    Thanks for the reply,

I was thinking of a situation such as the unlikely event of ending up paralysed due to a rare reaction to the anaesthetic, as an example. A situation that could not be blamed on the medical practitioners but is a possible outcome of surgery, though very unlikely.

Such a situation could be a huge financial drain on loved ones. I'm curious as to if I can get cover for such an eventuality, or similar, should the small chance that something like that come to pass.

    Thanks for any advice.

So as above, Life and PHI would provide cover but you'd need to get the insurer to provide cover on the condition. Depends what the condition is will dictate how likely it is that will happen but a pending operation isnt going to be something that makes them happy.
