Help needed with EE Orange

I had a defaulted account with EE Orange, this was paid off in full 28th May 2015.
I wrote and asked them to notify the Credit Reference Agencies that the debt was settled.
On the 4th of June my query to equifax and experian was replied to with the response they had received from EE Orange
"We have checked and can confirm that the account balance is all clear so advise that customer account will reflect as a satisfied account on the next automatic monthly update."
I wrote to EE again early July and got the following response
We’ve looked into this for you and can confirm that default status showing for account on your credit file is correct as invoice 546511372 number which was raised on 12/08/10, but payment for this made late on account on 28/05/15. Therefore the information recording is correct and will remain, as they were recorded as part of EE’s terms and conditions.
However for account there is no outstanding balance and account will reflect as satisfied account with paid in full status automatically on next monthly update, Please be informed that default account reflect on credit file for six years from default date.
I just want them to amend the file to show the default is settled with Zero Balance.
HELP please

It would appear that EE are agreeing to update the account to a zero balance and state that the account is now settled (and no longer outstanding and in a state of default) – however, they cannot removed the original default date as this is accurate information and only inaccurate data can be removed.
You could consider a Notice of Correction on your file by the default to give the information more context. The default will be registered for 6 years from the date of default (so should come off 12/08/2016).
