I have a problem with rats getting into the loft space through the drains,
i have the pest control guys in baiting and checking each fortnight, they have advised to have the drain pies caped,
can anyone advice who i would call in to get this done they recommend builders but the ones i have rang have said they don't do it.
we are in Derby-shire if it helps
any advice please.

This might help if you scroll down to rats in the drainpipe. Try contacting a local handyman or look for advert in local shops, or you might be able to D-I-Y.

If its the rain water drain pipes that they are climbing up, its surely just a case of getting some chicken wire (flexible wire mesh) and using that to block the bottom of the pipe - that way you can remove it occasionally to clean out anything that drops down the pipe.Adventure before Dementia!0

You can simply put in non return flaps in the pipes some call them rat flaps
Shows you what they look like when fitted

Have you tried Dynorod? I know they are expensive and you need to be cautious, but if you can't find anyone else to do it they are worth a try.
I called them out a few months ago and they didn't charge anything as they couldn't fix the problem.0 -
thanks guys called dino rod they want £270 -vat to fit the caps.

If the rats are getting into the loft from the sewer pipes then you must be getting all the sewer smells into your loft to.
You must have internal soil pipes it sounds like no one has fitted an air admittance valve these are not that expensive and will just push on to the end of a 110mm soil pipe.
I would also lift the manhole and put some rat poison down there place it somewhere that the water won't flush it away. You might have to put it inside a container attach some string and trap it with the manhole lid.0
