Bank cant find my Loan

Hi
I sent a copy of my bank statement to my bank to show my loan being paid in to my account and my payments for the loan leaving my account..... they have came back and said They need the loan account number but this is not on my statement. How do I go about claiming back my PPI with out any account number for the loan.

Also dose this mean they need to give me back every payment I made to them for the loan as they have no record of it

Thanks

John Paul

That is so funny. Surely not a serious question but I thank you for making me laugh.

Data protection act requires the destruction of information that is no longer required. Typically, that means 6 years after the closure/repayment but can vary.

Was this loan with your own bank or another lender?

When did you repay the loan and when did you close the bank account?
Can I ask which bank it was
  • its was with Halifax and I closed the account a few years after the loan was paid in full
  • Send them a Subject Access Request (I think that's what they're called). You will probably have to pay £10 for it so send a cheque along with the letter & then they have to send you all information they hold on you. If they still have the records then this information will be sent.

I believe there is a template letter somewhere on this site.

You might find that if it was over 7 years ago they may not have the records because they are only required to keep it for this period of time. This doesn't mean they have to pay you back all the money you paid them though otherwise everybody who paid a loan back over 7 years ago would be on to a winner!
