wet room vs shower cubicle

we are having an extension added to the ground floor and I will have a space available. At the moment we have a downstairs cloakroom but we can easily extend this.
instinctly, I am not one for ground floor bathrooms, but I will have about 21 sq feet to play with.
I was thinking of adding a downstairs shower. but can anyone explain the merits of a wet room over a shower cubicle?

Wet room - currently trendy, but will be kitsch at some point in the future
Provided it's properly constructed, there should be less areas for leaks - though that may not be such an issue for a ground floor shower.
Less cleaning, I would think as the whole area is tiled. But initial expense could be higher, as more tiles & labour needed.
Can't think of much else, but at least this reply will bump your question back up the listWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
I have 2 wet rooms in a home abroad, I think they are great! easy to clean, hardly any work involved at all. To clean the tiles just buy a squeegy and its done in no time. No worry about splashes or wet floors.......................Oh how I wish we had them here

Wet rooms are definately easier to keep clean. You need to find a good bathroom fitter or builder to install a wetroom though, as everything is concealed underfoot so important for future maintainance that the pipes are installed correctly and well sealled.
I wouldnt worry about one being trendier than the other, wet rooms are the norm throughout most of Europe, its really a bit of a good old Blighty thing to have a shower cubicle as the norm.
Make sure if you go for a wet room that you have the space (Floor to Ceiling) to allow for the runs, as ultimately the whole floor will need to drain to a point and be angled to allow for it.
Wet rooms are generally more expensive to install than traditional showers, so bare that in mind too.
Personally if you are the one cleanign the bathroom I would opt for a wet room!0 -

I recently stayed in a hotel with a wet room. My only problem was having to take shoes and socks off every time I wanted to go in there as the floor stayed wet for a long time after a shower.0

My other half tells me it's about a couple of grand to have a wet room done properly.
So for those who have a wet room, what do you do with the toilet roll? It's a nightmare when it's only near the shower. Surely it'll get turned to mulch in no time in a room that's, well wet. Good job there's plenty cheap toilet paper about!:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:0 -

Me to, its very annoying. The downside of having one in the house is that the floor remains a slippery until its dry. I guess that could be linked to how efficiently it drains but my experience of those in hotels put me off.
That said my friend has one and for them its great, they use it to hose down the dog indoors in the winter0 -
A Wet room is fun. But nothing can beat a good long hot bath with music, sparking fruit juice, candles and lots of smelly bath stuff.I remember when this was just a little website! :money:0
