in Credit cards
Hi,
My sister has never had a credit card ( she's 39) and now wants one to use in emergancies ( as she has no savings). She's not sure about her credit rating, but she pays all her bills by DD. Although she is paying off debts for council tax arrears, gas & elex arrears.
Can anyone suggest the best ones to go for that she will likely be accepted for, without hugh interest rates.

If she can't afford to save for emergencies, then how will she be able to afford to repay any borrowing with the interest in addition.
If she has a low income with arrears of essential bills and has never had a card then the only cards she's likely to get are ones with very high interest rates (say over 39% APR) but she could try her bank assuming she has a good record with them.0 -
I would agree with Clapton, forget about a credit card and steer your sister to the debt free wannabe board and clear those arrears first and build up some savings before getting into further debt.Previously known as Bokken, registered at MSE in Nov 04,computer glich deleted my access but it is fun building up my stars from scratch,again.:D0

I agree with both of you, it was only to be used in dire emergencies, i.e if her car breaks down and its a hefty bill.
As soon as she's paid off her debts I will be encouraging her to put more into a savings account.0 -
Get her on to the web site there are lots of savings to be made it doesn't have to be £600 a month in a ISA/ saving account.
Just by using other peoples tips money can remain in your pocket rather then the shops or credit card companies .
Good luck.Previously known as Bokken, registered at MSE in Nov 04,computer glich deleted my access but it is fun building up my stars from scratch,again.:D0
