Upgrading a laptop

I wondered if it would be possible to upgrade my son's laptop?
It's a Dell Latitude D420 and very slow now when he plays internet games.
Could I fit a better CPU or more memory - would that help?
Thank you in advance.

I wouldn't bother, you'd be just throwing good money after bad as the D420 is ancient and any "upgrades" you could do would leave it still seriously underpowered for modern computing requirements, especially games. Put the money toward a decent second hand or new laptop.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0

yesterday, I did a factory reset due to slowness, crashing etc and it is now amazingly fast. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

If you don't want to do a factory reset you could run the defrag program and you should notice an improvement in performance (click start, go to My Computer, right click on C: drive and go to Properties. Click on Tools and click the “Defragment Now” button.)
takes a while to run.0 -
obvious option is a memory upgrade if you havent done one, and a SSD if it will take one - would transform a laptop if it can take it.0
