If you do decide to take the free car (and why wouldn't you) make sure you deal with the Road Tax, VED or whatever its called this week, properly. As soon as your Dad notifies DVLA of the change of owner/keeper he will get a refund of unused months and the vehicle will need to be taxed again in your name.0

If you can plan the transfer you should also be able to avoid paying for 2 lots of tax. Set the transfer for last day of the month and immediately SORN it so you can then retax on the 1st of the month.
