Gliptone do a cleaning product as well as conditioner. Made a big difference to the (dark grey) leather in my old Saab.

I once acquired a set of, rare, leather seats for my Mk2 Senator. They were in a really poor condition and had even had gloss paint spilled on them. Took them to leather restorer and they came back as good as new. Wasn't a cheap exercise though.

If, as you have said, your car is turning into a "classic" with very few around, should you not be holding onto it a little while longer whilst it grows in value?

Don't bother tarting up that old, grubby, unwanted, too-big-engined dinosaur. Nobody wants them nowadays.

(How much do you want for it?)

To be honest, things have changed since yesterday (I didn't win the ebay auction for the Merc SL500 I'd got overexcited by!), so the BMW will be staying for the time being. It owes me absolutely nothing, but the whole endeavour has highlighted the possible need to start giving a toss about how it looks, so the leather cleaning will still go ahead!

Though I suspect another factor in it's possibly over-inflated value is the fact that it has a spare engine for an X5, which there are overwhelmingly more of with that engine.

Keep the 540i.. the e39 was the best era of BMW's if you ask me.

I have used 'whizz' on leather seats before - its in a spray bottle from them awful cheap 99p shops, but does a wonderful job and smells lovely.
