Hi,
My computer is 7 yr old runs on windows ME, I have had no start up problems til last 3 months when I went on to Talk Talk Broadband and also on advice tried to install 2 free security anti virus programs.
When I first start the computer the base starts but nothing happends with the monitor, have to turn off and start again this time monitor starts but i get a blue screen with ctrl alt delete to proceed but nothing happends so switch off start again, then it comes with the 3 options of 1 normal mode 2 ??? 3 Safe Mode. i select opt 1 and goes to inproper shut down checking disc and eventually desktop appears.
Is there anything I can do other than get a new computer
Thanks
Pete

if there is not data on it u want. get rid of that ME crap. and load if not 98 SE windows XP to start.
i dont deal with windows ME. just dont even touch it. its so so bad!0 -
old computer, but it's always worth trying to revive things if it's still fit for purpose...
1) If you have a Win ME CD, put it in the CD Drive and boot from it, then, when you get a command prompt type CHKDSK c: (or whatever your drive letter is)... chkdsk quite often seems to fix little disk problems, but if it's scanning on boot anyway, it might not do anything better...
2) If you have an ME disk anyway, you could always format and reinstall... surprising how often this fixes problems...
3) If you know anything about BIOS settings, check these to make sure the memory speed and CPU speed are correct - I've had a problem in the past where after a critical error and shutdown the BIOS has reset the memory apertures etc. to a weird sort of "safe mode" which screws over the whole computer...0 -
yeah i agree worth it on most pcs.
but ur missing the point its windows ME. its not even worth running! just ditch it if u can.0
