I phoned NRAM and was told I had to ring Cardiff Pinnacle, I rang the number I was given but the number wasn't recognised, I then found another number Cardiff Pinnacle, when I rang this it went through a series of options, I selected the option that it was for information regarding a secured loan, this then gave me another number to ring, this number was NRAM, the very same number I rang originally! No.
If the mortgage was bought via a northern rock branch then Northern rock asset management (NRAM) is who you complain to.
if the mortgage was bought via a broker then you complain to the broker. (this is where the Jan 2005 date can come into play as most brokers were not regulated before then - although some were).
I assume you have found the direct debit to the PPI on your statements then as Northern Rock PPI was standalone and had its own monthly payment and not built into the mortgage. Who was the insurer?
I rang NRAM again, told the lady I spoke to I was not happy, I felt I was being fobbed off etc, she took my details including mine and my wife's full names, the address of the property we were buying, our new address and approximate dates when the mortgage was taken out and when it ended. I got a letter from NRAM says no unfortunately they couldn't locate a valid account using the details I had provided and also said, for the avoidance of doubt we will not log your complaint until we receive a valid account number from you.
I would assume that they would have been able to access any details of a mortgage from the name(s) of the borrowers and the address of the property, this seems not to be the case, are they purposely making things difficult?
Thanks

Edit The mortgage was taken out In Jan 1987, we borrowed another £1000 to carry out some home improvements in 1990 (approx), the mortgage was for 25 years so ended 2012.0 -

Quite possibly they would. However, PPI is not built into the mortgage. It is a standalone product paid by monthly direct debit from your current account direct to the insurer.Edit The mortgage was taken out In Jan 1987, we borrowed another £1000 to carry out some home improvements in 1990 (approx), the mortgage was for 25 years so ended 2012.
In 1987, MPPI was not widely available. it was just being introduced. So, it was not a common purchase at that time. The fact you only stopped the mortgage recently would mean you probably have your bank statements for the tail end of the period at least. Have you checked to see if you are making a direct debit to Cardiff Pinnacle?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
