As you mention Google Play I'm assuming it's an Android tablet.

Go to Settings > Storage. How much space does it show as Available?

Can you install a micro SD card and move some apps or photos/videos on to it?

Get a cleaner like 360 security - if there's room to install it of course. It will remove all the junk files and left overs from deleted apps. Send your photos to the cloud instead of keeping them on the tablet

There is sometimes an issue with android where thumbnails can be 1gb+ they are temp files so something like CCleaner can clear those up. Of course you need the space to install it.

try clearing the Cache from withing settings.

Try an app called power clean which is free or you might have a similar app preinstalled with your android OS.
Run it to clear junk and memory and then go into google play and see if it will allow the installing of apps.
I found often it is just the junk stopping things and once cleared an app would download fine .
If it is really just running out of room you could just move things to SD card .
In settings (the cog icon )go to Apps and in the Apps list you work your way through each one and when you come to an app with the option to 'Move to SDCard',click it to do so.
You can clear cache app by app too in the same setting.
