What to consider when choosing a tariff?

As stated, you are initially required to register with BG because the meters themselves are already registered to BG. I’m not sure how long the process takes, but as soon as your name is linked to the meters, you can switch supplier. My experience of SSE was quite good - they responded to my emails, and when I left, they refunded my credit balance fairly quickly.mad mocs - the pavement worrier0

i have checked a few websites and there are a lot of companies cheaper than british gas. And all the websites agree with SSE being the cheaper. Can i sign up with them as soon as i move in? or do i need to talk first with British Gas?
No, as already explained above you are in a deemed contract with BG (or the existing supplier) from day one: you cannot switch away until you register for an account with them. As soon as your BG account is registered you can commence a switch, which will take 3/4 weeks. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hello all,
I am moving to a new property and i will have to choose my gas/electricity supplier. So far, i have been always living in a rented house, sharing with other people so i never chose the electricity/gas supplier so i dont understand about tariffs.
Now, i will have a place by my own and i would like to understand what tariff i need to choose.
What are the different kind of tariffs the companies offer? i work 9 to 5 Monday to Friday. A standar tariff should be enough?
Thanks
Serious question:
What are you hoping to achieve by switching tariff or even supplier?
I ask because only you can tell us your personal goals in this regard. And it's only with this information can anyone advise you how to proceed.
Consult a comparison site to see all the tariffs by all the suppliers currently on offer to all0 -
...
The actual owner is using british gas for both (gas and electricity), so as per your comments i need to register with British Gas as soon as i moved in and then choose another supplier if i consider that is cheaper?
So do I take it, you are looking to switch to the lowest cost deal for you?
If so, consult a comparsion site to find that best deal for you0 -

Refer to your post#6, particularly the part I quoted above.0 -
