    I don't buy them now
I buy glucose drink for when I'm not feeling up to eating, and an energy (caffeine + taurine) drink which I have one glass of most mornings, but other than that, I drink chilled tap water if I want a cold drink.

I do wish the "food police" would butt out though; the more someone wags their finger at me and tells me something is bad for me, the more likely I am to want it!:D

Will you have to pay an extra 20% if you want sugar in a coffee in a cafe?

10% for he first spoonful, rising to a huge 40% for three or more spoonfuls.
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door
  • No, I'd cut down but not completely
I never buy sugar-free/'diet' drinks (yuk!) but I don't think this will make any real difference to my occasional Coke (if eating out) so, no. Tax away!

I'm another who really doesn't think it will make much of a difference but if something has to be taxed I'm all for it being frivolous/unhealthy/luxury things like this.

I shouldn't be too badly hit then. Although I only have one sugar I tend to have about 10 cups of coffee during the day.

I don't drink sweet drinks but I eat sweets, so if I translate the question into: if a chocolate bar were to cost 20% more would it stop you buying it, I think probably not. If it were to cost 100% more then maybe :) Sugar is far too cheap and easily available now.

The easiest cut we made to our food budget was to stop buying fizzy drinks and squash (also a good way to cut our expanding waist lines!), the odd one a month can of fizzy chilled drink taste a lot better now and is a complete luxury, I really notice the price of them now and would be shocked at a rise, but as they are a rare luxury I would still buy an occasional can of pop.

(I'm not too far advanced in my years and can remember cans of pop being 30p so a £1 price tag still unsettles me! Lol!)

Never touch them, so tax as much as you like.
I think we are taxed enough so I don't want new taxes on anyone.

    No, I'll take the "hit"!
I really object to this. It is just another way to punish those of us who have self control.

I like the odd can of Barr's Cola, maybe one or even two a week but I don't see why I should have to pay an extra tax on it when I have a healthy diet, walk 5 miles minimum a day and know how to brush my teeth properly.

The rest of the time I drink tap water (wonderful stuff here), green tea or ginger tea :j

You can't tax people out of being morons. Taxing sugary drinks is like sticking a plaster over a limb that's been cut off.

If you think adding tax to this will do anything for the health of the nation you're deluded.

They've lowered the number of smokers by using a multi-pronged approach:

    -upping the price of cigarettes
-introducing laws that make social smoking very difficult now
-adverts and campaigns on tv showing the ill-effects of smoking on the smoker and the people near to them.

So no, a 20% tax is not going to do much by itself.

That won't hit me, then, thankfully; I drink gallons of coffee, but don't have any sugar in it.:D
