Just had to put a new hard drive in laptop put windows 7 on but now can't load any software even my printer just opens the file and shows whats there just put a DVD in and its done nothing,Wondering whether there is something missing that is stopping me using DVD drive as it worked fine before.
Just clicked on Windows Media Centre in start up and it brings up Welcome page and click on continue and seems to be a download to connect to Micrto soft. but nothing else.
Also found a down load Essentials pack but don't no if that would help either.
Anyone any ideas please would be most grateful

hang on , very confusing
you have fitted a new hard drive to your laptop
you have installed win 7
you say your DVD does not work , did you use it to load windows?
what can you not read with your dvd player , is it just dvd,s or all discs (cd,s)0 -
Sounds like you are missing the necessary drivers for your hardware items. Go into Control Panel > Device Manager and see if any of the items has a yellow ! against it. If so right click on the item and look for the Update Driver option.... As above. to the manufacturer's support site for your make and model and download the necessary drivers: this may well apply to other aspects of the machine such as audio/video, etc.
You can't just install the OS and expect all the hardware to work automatically. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
