Un-Bloat Windows XP Home

My uncle has a Dell pc which has Windows XP Home installed.
The problem is that it also has loads of rubbish that come as standard with a Dell pc that he doesn't want or need. This causes the pc to run really slow. I was planning to wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows XP Home, use AVG and Zonealarm and just reinstall MS Office.
Is this the best way to go or is there some other way of unbloating the system (I know about msconfig) ?

Wipe - Reinstall Xp, Download Tweak Ui, so you can get to the functionality that MS hides.0
