Monday 13th July - What small DFW things will you do today?

Posts: 4,106 Forumite

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

Morning All
Thanks for the start Ziggy. Had a very nice relaxing day yesterday and was sound asleep by 10.30 and had a good night so feel quite refreshed today. It's been raining here this morning too which is a nice change.
Today I will check my banking, have had to spend on a hire car for next weekend which is costing £60 a lot for us these days. But I wouldn't want to miss the event. Had some other lower spends this weekend too so need to reconcile those.
Will try and run the hoover round tonight too, the front room needs it.
Other than that business as usual. Will try and figure out where I can take from the budget to do a small PAD contribution.
Oh and still waiting on First Utility to update their bills for the month. It annoys me that I have to pay them on a set day each month but they don't send their bills until a whole week or longer this month, time.
Have a good day everyone

Morning ziggy & Bob :wave: thanks for starting us off ziggy :A and glad you had a good night Bob!
Dawn sorry to hear you're not feeling good, hope it passes quickly...
Small (and big) things for today:
* Did job search this morning - found a few positions
* checked banking
* transferred my money in my Halifax account (final salary payments) into my Santander account. Realised yesterday I was missing 3% interest on it each month :eek: conditions for receiving the £5 reward for Halifax is I have £1000 deposited into the account each month so realised would be in my interest to do a money shuffle each month! Also as the Halifax is my current account I won't spend so much if the balance isn't so healthy!
* made dgd's packed lunch
* oh took lo tuna pasta bake, 2 chicken pieces from dinner last night, a hm muffin & a banana (trying to convince oh that me working pt will benefit our whole family)
* texted bff and wished her a great 1st day in her new job
Still to do:
*[STRIKE] have 2 jobs that close today so that will be my morning. One the closing date is 11 and the other 12 so going to be busy![/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]reply to email from friend re skyping this evening[/STRIKE]
* go for a jog
*[STRIKE] hang up towels indoors but when it brightens up after 11 hang outside[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]flylady [/STRIKE]
* NSD - am going to try to not spend any cash between now and Saturday...
* work out how to empty vacuum using youtube (have to everytime!)
* [STRIKE]email brother about contacting Police regarding my mum's estate. Her "friend" has cleared out her flat. All of our family sentimental items I haven't been able to get[/STRIKE]
* all meals from stores
* check through fridge/cupboard and adjust meal plan accordingly
* take some pictures of items to ebay/facebay
Ok think that's all I need/want to do. Better get started on the applications. Have a lovely day whatever you are doing xDF as at 30/12/16

Hi all
Banana cake 1/2 done, used two very very ripe bananas great way to use items that you may consider not using.
Leg lamb ready for dinner tonight (our own lamb)
Lunches done, last week at school so 75% lunches next week will be eaten at home !
need to book TB test (every 6 months here) and send wool to WPoW
minimal washing as rain and no forecast for dry weatherDebt is a symptom, solve the problem.0 -
Morning all
Got off to a wet start walking the dog, but it does look a bit brighter now.
Cycled to my veg garden at 7.30am - picked broad beans, mange tout, potatoes & the first 3 yellow courgettes. Will use the courgettes to make vegeburger type things with them for lunch today.
Discovered that cycling past the shops at an early hour is the best way not to spend as not even the baker was open. Good job I've got a loaf in the freezer. The only shop open was the Nis@ shop & I nipped in there to pick up their new list of special offers (they change every 3 wks) & picked up a £1 coin. Not often I come back with more cash than I set off with!
Going round to a neighbour this morning who does hairdressing from home. She only asks for £5 for a cut although I give her £10 as she does a good job & needs the cash. Still loads cheaper than the hairdresser in town. When I was working I spent a fortune on having highlights every 6 weeks, but that had to go when I retired.
Done the usual thrifty things this morning - hot water off, teabags reused & hot water out of kettle into flask.
Hope you all have a good day.

Morning all!
Hope you all had lovely weekends.
Today I have/will:-
* Check banks
* Take hm meatballs out of freezer for dinner tonight
* Take lunch to work
* Check FPL
* Check OnePoll
* Check OVO to see if I can withdraw credit yet
* Cancel circuits for tomorrow night - pulled my thigh muscle and I'm not sure when is the latest I can cancel so don't want to risk leaving it until tomorrow but if I feel upto it tomorrow I can book back on until the last minute
* Text lodger to remind to get rent out
* Update spreadsheet as had haircut at the weekend (£15.75 for wash and cut)
* Dinner from stores
* Mum waxing my legs tonight (sorry if TMI!)
* Take crochet to parents to get help from mum
* Dad giving my car a quick checkover tonight (oil etc) and fitting new wiper blades as going away the weekend
* Send off job application
Think that's everything for today. Hope you all have a great day.Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

- [STRIKE]Mystery shop this morning[/STRIKE], waiting for a callback.
- [STRIKE]Buying lunch from ASDA for the next two days (probably tzatziki, pitta bread and some ASDA's own fruit smoothie)[/STRIKE]
- [STRIKE]Print out the second dress pattern for my beach dress.[/STRIKE]
- [STRIKE]Planning to go the gym for Body Pump this evening at 7pm. Haven't washed my kit though... febreeze?![/STRIKE] No spaces left. Will swim instead.
- Bacon sarnie's for dinner tonight to use up the bacon and bread I bought!
- Hoping to sew some more of my maxi dress for holiday
- Spoke to my cousin about this job he wants, he's just waiting for the cash to be transferred to him from his GF's Dad so they can pay my invoice.
- Filled in three surveys on OnePoll. I estimate I am 57 surveys away from payout. I won't be doing it again but it'll be a nice dent in the credit card. (40p so far)0 -
