I also phoned citibank and they stated that they would not waive the $20 per month fee for balances lower than $2000.
They did state that i could open a US saving account, which would give me an ATM card, but no cheque book. There are no fees for this account and no minimum balance.
I wonder if this would do the same thing, but i don't know if you can set up standing orders to this account. The only other problem i foresee is that i would be unable to pay people without a cheque book, unless someone knows how to get round this.
They were not the most helpful on the phone i have to say.0 -
If anyone can tell me how to get rid of this £100 it would be just perfect.
The only thing I can think of is that if you are buying a property in New York with funds from the UK is open a HSBC Premier account (need £50,000 but perhaps the money for the property purchase?) and use that to open the account (free) in the USA.
Then you could always downgrade from a HSBC Premier account to normal free accounts (in both UK/USA)

I have applied for a Citibank US dollar foreign currency deposit account. There are no fees and no minmimum amount.
I need £1 to open the account and i get an ATM card. The only thing in don't get is a cheque book, but i should be able to get round this by wire transfer.
Am i able to set up standing orders for this type of account, so that the rent from my property can be paid into the account each month.
I asked a member of staff at Citibank, but they were useless.
Look forward to your replies.
