Direct Line - Approved repairer

Options
I have recently experienced one of the worst quality body work repairers. Their name at the start of my repair was Gladwins and they are situated in Thetford Norfolk. This company is one of Direct Line's approved repairers (now known as Nationwide Gladwins).
This company had to re-do the work they had messed up three times and still my car has over 12 faults in the paintwork/fittings. I am currently awaiting a quote from a repairer of my choosing (known for their quality workmanship).
To add insult to injury Direct Line offered me £100 as a 'good will gesture' but then sent me a letter advising that this was compensation. I believe Direct Line say they will pay you £10 per day, if your car isn't completed within 7 days, if you go with their approved repairer. My car first came back from Gladwins on 23rd May 2015 and we are now in July. Surely £100 doesn't cover this?
My insurance is due to be renewed at the end of this month but I have had no renewal letter as yet. I'd like think they would have offered me a years free insurance but alas no such offer has been made.

£10 per day up to £70 according to their website but its not immediately obvious if it applies to already in force policies nor how rectification is handled under it

On the basis your offer is £100 it goes beyond their "7 day promise" even if your policy does qualify for it

Would you want to stay with them?

I had an issue with Direct Line a couple of years ago with an six month old BMW M Sport that got vandalised and they advised me the car had to go to one of their approved repairers.
I refused and demanded it went back to a specialist BMW repairer after a couple of days they agreed.
My son took his to an approved Direct Line repairer for a back end shunt repair, when he collected the car the front wing was dented, the garage advised it was done before they collected the car and refused to co operate, after a long battle and luckily we found a couple of photos we took of the car after the initial accident showing no frontal damage after which they conceded and repaired the front wing

    Hello Mini73

It sounds as though you’ve had a tough time trying to get your car fixed and I can see why you are unhappy.

If direct line is offering to cover the cost of the repairs from your chosen garage, then that sounds reasonable. From what you’ve said, it sounds like the £100 was to say sorry for the delays and inconvenience that they’ve caused.

Here’s a link that helps explain how the £10 per day service works. If you’d like to know whether you’re able to claim the offer, then why not give them a call and ask? Here’s their number 0345 246 3761

As far as offering insurance for free goes, this is pretty rare!

    Hope you find this useful
