help with Car insurance advice please

Hi
Pls could i have some advice. we have 2 cars, one in my name and another in my wife's name and the insurance is in her name. currently my wife's car insurance is due for renewal.

can i take the insurance in my name and put my my wife as an add on driver, i'll be using the car more than my wife, as its diesel car and more fuel efficient than my car. my wife will only use it for my daughter's school drop off and pick up.

will there be any problem as the previous years insurance was in my wife's name.

Thanks

Insurers may not allow you to carry over any no-claims from your wife's name. Your NCB from your other policy is not "free" to be used on this new policy, but you may find that some insurers will "mirror" it as a marketing incentive.

It would be simpler to keep one in your wife's name and just inform the insurance co that you will be the main driver rather than your wife. Assuming your driving records are similar it shouldn't make any difference to the price. You will then also both keep your own NCBs.

As long as the cover is for policy holder and spouse, it is unlikely the insurance company will worry about who drives it the most.

We had a similar question with our insurers, a couple of years ago, as we change cars regularly between us and it would be impossible to work out who does what mileage. The insurance company said that they don't care, they know that most of the time, one or the other spouse will use one car more often than the other and they factor that in.
