Recording from a Samsung Smart TV

If my memory serves me correctly, under the analogue system, the aerial went to the box and a scart connected to the TV. Does that seem doable with a smart tv?0

if you had a pvr before, what's stopping you from using it now, it plugs in in exactly the same way as before.
if you want a hdmi or hd upgrade, there's an abundance of dual tuner hdmi hd pvr's on the market to choose from that will prove a better experience than trying to use a smart tv's usb hard disk cludges. Very shortly freeview play stb's will enter the market to compete with youview and the like, so prices of older stock may tumble0 -
Yes if the TV has Scart connection or box has HDMI output .
I have a recorder connected to smart tv via scart .
I can record 2 separate channels on the recorder plus a 3rd recording on the TV via Hard Drive but i would need an aerial feed to the TV as well as the box .0 -
Hi JJ,
I have just found the Humax and you can have an aerial connection between it and the tv as well as Scart. I don't have the correct M2F aerial connector, but they are dead cheap.
What I can't get my head around is why a brand new Smart TV has no inbuilt recording capability; you have to add a peripheral. I had hoped we could dispense with yet another box, but seemingly not. I suppose these digital tvs don't have inbuilt recording capability because it would increase the price.0 -

For one customer 128Gb can suffice, but some may want 5Tb. Not to mention SSDs.
Also, TVs have no moving parts. Unless it's an expensive SSD or flash memory, a hard drive would be the most unreliable part of a TV with recording.0 -
Makes sense!
Thanks to everybody for the input. All much appreciated.0 -

I have no use whatsoever for a recording facility, so current situation suits me fine.
Everyone has different needs.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
sticking a 2.5" portable disk drive (or bay) and another tuner in a tv would cost very little extra to manufacture and would make a lot more commercial sense and provide more customer benefit than many of the other gimmicks that they are pushing out into the market atm.
humax did one http://www.trustedreviews.com/Humax-LP32-TDR1-32in-LCD-TV-PVR-review
and provided the innards for a similar jvc

We have found that since getting a smart tv we don't need to record any more, because there is so much available on catch up - unless you have a specific reason for wanting to record, I wouldn't rush to buy anything, just make sure you've got apps for the main tv channels, and maybe a paid for service like Netflix or Blinkbox, and see if that covers what you need.0

Yup, but if you catch up commercial channels, you cant FF thru the ads.!0
