Travel Insurance question.......

We are going on hols with Son/DiL/2 grandsons next year. I've booked & will be shelling out payments, but they will have their own travel insurance.

Anyone know what happens if for any reason we had to claim on travel insurance because one or all of them wasn't able to go (through illness, bereavement etc)?

Would it be difficult to claim on their travel insurance because the payment paper trail would only lead to me?

Would it be best if they made some stage payments directly to the travel agent instead of it looking like it's all coming from me?
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
