:wave:Evening everyone. Well the car news is bad. It only failed the MOT on brakes but they reckon the head gasket is on it's way out. There's oil in the engine and the fan is on permanently. They are quoting £800 to fix it. I'm not sure the car is worth it. It cost me £1500 to buy it three years ago.

I took it to the place where they fit cars quickly, OH thinks they are expensive so I am getting a second opinion tomorrow and see where that takes me.:(

Boo to the car, that's about all I can say on the matter! On the upside at least you are so near the end of your dmp, my car is 14 years old and I still have 5-7 years left on my dmp.... Hope you get it sorted.

Sorry to hear about the car hope you can get a cheaper place.

Our car also failed MOT and Halfords quoted us £260 to fix it. Something wrong with the steering wheel rack and a few other things. We had only budgeted £150. Hubby shopped around and a local garage has said they can fix everything for £100! So we have booked it in for Monday. Halfords wanted to charge us £45 just to replace a bulb!

Oh rubbish news folks, sorry to hear all this. Like Puzz my car is 12 years and I expect o be on DMP for at least 8 more years.....

Thinking of going to one of these MOT only places so they have no inclination to try to sell me stuff, on the other hand the guy at the garage we used previously always got the car thru the MOT and never charged more than £250 including a service, so ....., I'd welcome any advice on this.

(Not that I have £250) can't seem to keep to budget at the moment, although the cupboards are quite full so perhaps I can be a bit more economical this month, but it won't generate £250. I have a little in emergency savings but I need a gas fire, otherwise the house gets so cold it's unbearable or I have to have heating on a lot, neighbours moved out in the summer, making it considerably colder. Have promised myself if I can get car through MOT I will look into a gas fire. Keep looking out for old ones but the size is odd and you still need Gas-safe to fit it. Tried elec fire but doesn't seem to warm the house the same way.

Morning all, car update. Took it to a guy recommended by a work colleague and guess what - he said there's nothing wrong with my brakes:eek: He said the head gasket has been leaking oil for ages and may last me another day or another year! Hard to tell apparently. Anyway he is going to MOT it for me so I am road legal and I am hoping it will carry on going for a few more weeks until I can sort something else out. I will have to keep an eye on my oil levels. So I am feeling a bit better about it all and lesson learned - never go to the fitters who are quick. Someone said I should go back to them and complain, try and get my £30 back but I don't think I have the energy...

PS MOT completed this afternoon no problems. The mechanic had another look at the oil leak and he said he isn't sure the oil is coming from the head gasket at all. There's oil leaking from somewhere, but he said the usual signs of a head gasket going, like oil in the water or vice versa and poor emissions weren't there. He said the emissions were spot on. I am a very relieved GUO:)

  • Anybody got their PRA Defaults from Barclaycard promised in the summer yet? Still waiting here and not a peep on either card, although I am actually paying PRA for one of them, the other still going to BC even though they said it would be changing.

Bizarre game they play, but on the flip side it got me interest free.

    Hi bb,
Nothing here yet either...maybe the pra group don't report to noddle? That's who I look at. The bc reporting has disappeared....if nothing next month I will ring pra and enquire..or I may write to them, I do like a letter!

    Very frustrated....literally VERY frustrated.

SC October payment to Very not showing on my statement. SC payment would have cleared balance to zero. If not zeroed before tomorrow the buy now pay later interest kicks in.

I know I have paid enough to clear the balance
I know SC have passed the payment
Every other month the payment appears about 24th of the month
VERY convenient (er....inconvenient) that this month's payment hasn't appeared.

Stuff it - I have paid again, directly to Very. Balance now zero.
What's the betting by tomorrow I will be 'in credit' for the figure paid across by SC.

On a positive note, this is the first of our debts to be completely cleared :)
