Not got a default notice in the post but just checked my Noddle account and now have another 2 debts from Natwest showing as Defaulted :)

That means that my two Natwest debts, MBNA (now with PRA) and Tesco accounts are all defaulted!!! Just got my Co-operative loan and Nationwide loan to go. One year in and 4 out of my 6 debts defaulted - hurrah!!!

On the minus side - I have to get through the next 10 days before payday on approx £80 - I need bus fare, food shopping and petrol out of that  Gonna be tight!!

Am finding I am also being a total Scrooge when it comes to Christmas presents for the kids this year too. Have a strict budget but can't bear to part with any of it - just think the kids toys are so overpriced this year. Am waiting for Black Friday!! Anyone got any other tips for Christmas shopping?

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone :)

tips for shopping, walk to the shops and back, really concentrates your mind on not buying extra stuff! Also saves a £1 on fuel or so.

Tips on toys, unbranded toys are often just as good, eg Tasco operation type game, maplins for marbles games, use your clubcard savings etc to make it stretch (sorry as I have no kids of my own I'm probably a bit rubbish here but thought I'd give it a try). Get the kids to prioritise what they'd like so you have an idea where to focus ?

  • Hi all,

Just had a thought. My car insurance is due next month and I'm shopping around to find cheaper insurance. Will bad credit stop me from taking out car insurance? Thanks everyone.

    Hi,
I have had no issues with changing insurance for car or home since starting my dmp.

Just an update - SC have written to us to say Halifax and Virgin CC have rejected our plan. On the plus side Virgin have said they will stop the interest charges immediately but Halifax haven't said anything. SC have advised us not to worry and they will send our payments as scheduled beginning of Nov.

Just to say thanks again for this thread because I would otherwise be losing sleep with worry.

I had a Virgin credit card and so did OH and they stopped interest straight away and passed us over to Aktiv Capital along the way. Halifax didn't stop interest but reduced it. We were successful in getting some of the interest and charges back after we complained to the FOS about them. They can reject your plan all they want but there's not much they can do about it. You are paying what you can afford and they know it. They are just trying it on. Stick to your guns and be strong.

For some time now OH has been lusting after a new gadget. It costs over a thousand pounds, but they do interest free credit over a year. So knowing we are near the end of our DMP he thought he would have a bash at applying for the credit. He asked me about it first, you know - should he, could he, try etc. Well I kept a very straight face and said go for it. Well of course he was refused in less than 2 seconds flat, which he guessed he would be. Ah bless he was so hopeful:rotfl:

  • Hi all,

Just a quick query and I think the answer is probably 'no' but I wanted to ask you experts on here :)

We have an account with Very which currently has £0 on it. We were wondering if we are able to buy items (a few kids toys for Christmas) from Very on a 'buy now pay later' deal. I know with regards to the DMP that you shouldn't favour one creditor over the other and once the debt becomes due for payment (after 6 or 9 months) and we pay the full amount off will this look like favouritism to Very over other creditors who may be able to see that we have paid a larger sum to Very yet are still only making the agreed smaller DMP payments to them?

    I would appreciare your thoughts.

    Many thanks,

    Hi,
A dmp is based on no credit so the answer I am afraid is a big fat no no....

Probably an automated 'pay up or else' letter. File it as long as they are receiving your DMP payment, otherwise call them and then file it.

Thank you. They are receiving their DMP payment, and all the legal stuff started with 'we may...' rather than 'we will...' May just send SC a quick email though, for peace of mind.

Sounds like a standard letter with wording that by law they have to include on such notices, no matter what the situation with a DMP or other informal payment arrangement may be.
