DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 11

  • Just an update - SC have written to us to say Halifax and Virgin CC have rejected our plan. On the plus side Virgin have said they will stop the interest charges immediately but Halifax haven't said anything. SC have advised us not to worry and they will send our payments as scheduled beginning of Nov.

Just to say thanks again for this thread because I would otherwise be losing sleep with worry.

I'm not with Helifax, but I hear they usually reject it, as SC say, tough, just keep sending them the payments.

This thread has to be one of the best for improving sleep :D

Sorry Zenshi I didn't see it, have you tried posting on the front page of DFW?

    It's done it's done it's done!!! :j :j :j

Haven't been able to get through to make the latest F&F payment until today but I've done it! Debt is now £3,633.13. 18 payments to SC made, 28 more schelduled monthly payments to go... but we'll see about that - after all my DMP was supposed to be 20 YEARS when I started

Thank you to each and every one of you that has helped me along the way. I'd be a quivering wreck without you.

    Kate x

It's great to see you back here Kate, we really missed you, although doesn't look like you'll be here for long now :T
Re-posting one of my old posts as it may help some of the newer DMPers (having said that I am still a new DMPer ;))

We all have something to offer and to learn, it's great to have you here Jan.

    Hello all,
I've just sent in my dmp application to national debt line, I'm struggling to pay the minimum on credit cards each month but it is possible. Just. Do I keep on paying them until the dmp is set up or cancel the direct debit and send them a cheque for £10 and the letter saying that we're going through a dmp application and here's a token payment. Like I say I can just squeeze out the minimum payment for another few months but I'm confused as to what to do.
Thanks for reading and whatever advice may follow!

    Hello and welcome,

Like the others say, if you going to go to dmp, unless there is something specific you need to acheive, don't make any more payments, tokens of £1 until you get DMP set up is fine.

Cancel the direct debit, you might get some calls when the payment is due/overdue choose to ignore or answer them, but be clear you won't be making the next payment because you can't.

Try to read through the threads to see what might happen, but come back here for support and advice anytime.

Can anyone with more experience tell me if I've handled this correctly please?

We have been with StepChange on a DMP since 2009 all been going great and never missed a payment until this year - literally year from hell! (Long story on another thread) but we missed a couple of payments, thankfully I have now spoken to StepChange and its all back up and running phew!

During this time lloyds have passed my loan debt from 2002 onto Moorcroft. I googled them and promptly scared myself silly!
I have rang StepChange who have updated their details and said they will contact them and send this months payment with an updated financial assessment.
I asked StepChange if I should contact them and they said it wasn't necessary but up to me.

Yesterday I promptly received a letter from Moorcroft saying I need to contact them as a matter of urgency, not to ignore this letter call us today etc.
So I did a bit of research and posted a letter recorded delivery. It states I have been on a DMP with StepChange since 2009. I recently missed a couple of payments, explained why and that the DMP was still running and StepChange would contact them with regards to the monthly payments and an updated financial asessment. I also informed them that I would not deal with the matter of the telephone only via letter or through StepChange.

Does this sound about right? I told StepChange about the stuff that I had read online and they said not to worry but -I'm a worrier!

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Try not to worry, I haven't had to worry about signing anything for a DCA as only SC have my bank details, so no one else could take anything.

I've no experience of Moorcroft, but most DCAs play nice with SC since they actually would like the money, I wouldn't read too much about them on line, it's like searching for something when you are ill, all the worst bits stand out.

You've done so well keeping up the DMP since 2009, don't let this stress you out now.

Not got a default notice in the post but just checked my Noddle account and now have another 2 debts from Natwest showing as Defaulted :)

That means that my two Natwest debts, MBNA (now with PRA) and Tesco accounts are all defaulted!!! Just got my Co-operative loan and Nationwide loan to go. One year in and 4 out of my 6 debts defaulted - hurrah!!!

On the minus side - I have to get through the next 10 days before payday on approx £80 - I need bus fare, food shopping and petrol out of that  Gonna be tight!!

Am finding I am also being a total Scrooge when it comes to Christmas presents for the kids this year too. Have a strict budget but can't bear to part with any of it - just think the kids toys are so overpriced this year. Am waiting for Black Friday!! Anyone got any other tips for Christmas shopping?

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone :)

I've had one! Well, a default notice anyway! From Sainsburys - lots of legal speak, says they'll register a default in 28 days if arrears aren't paid and to phone them to discuss. Assume I can just ignore it? Must admit it did make me flap a bit but know it's all part of the process. Once this has defaulted we'll only have debt left with Barclays/BC to default as Lloyds cards defaulted a long time ago. We all know how it goes with BC...

Probably an automated 'pay up or else' letter. File it as long as they are receiving your DMP payment, otherwise call them and then file it.
