    Hello all,

Just about to start DMP. I need to set up a basic bank account but I'm petrified that I won't be accepted for even a basic bank account as my credit file is so bad. Has anyone had experience with any banks that are ok with you being on DMP or is it generally a no-no to even mention DMP while trying to open a basic account?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

    Hi,

Basic bank accounts are available to anyone, there is no borrowing facility, and no credit check involved.

They are specially designed to be available to everyone regardless of your credit record, and there is no requirement to disclose a DMP.

  • Thanks for the quick response. Generally speaking is there any bank that are ok with people going on DMP? I currently bank with Natwest so unable to choose Natwest/RBS if memory serves me right so am considering Barclasys/Co-op.

I'll say it again, there is no requirement to disclose a debt management plan to anyone, your bank won't want to know, it won't form part of the application process.

Most banks do basic accounts, but of course you must pick a bank with whom you have no debt.

    Hi

Actually last year, 2 years into my DMP I opened a new bank account with Yorkshire bank, I don't have an overdraft and I'm happy with the account. As far as I recall they didn't ask about a DMP. I did it on-line with the thought that you lose nothing for trying, and they passed me:T.

I still have my coop account and I run both.

I was accepted for Halifax, no questions asked. Straight forward online
    LBM.....sometime in 2013 £27,056. 10 creditors
June 20.....£7,587.....3 creditors left 72% paid

£26,200 on interest only part of mortgage (July 16)...will chip away £17,103
    £49,200 repayment mortgage ( July 16) £37,764
  • Lloyds have accepted our £1 payment offer, well Wescott have who are now dealing with it.
So far NRAM have not accepted the £1 but a much reduced payment, Very have accepted £1, MBNA have accepted £1, Capital one agreed to £1, Argos have said no and they will be passing it on to another DCA.
Creation have sent the same letter asking for three months bank statements or pay slips, they have ignored my letter telling them that we won't be sending those details. Will pop another letter in the post.
Still waiting responses from Next and Barclays (although Barclays says Default on Noodle).

Funny how the smaller debts are the more trickier ones to deal with!

Feel like so much weight has been lifted from our lives....I know that there is a long road ahead, and £1 a month will not clear anything soon, but we are no longer getting deeper in debt.

Coming to the end of my 4 month non payment sabatical (well it's a cheeky 5 months) and will be doing the new all singing and dancing Financial Statement on payday. That's how I can eek out another month by telling them it starts the following payday ;)

Made a cheeky F&F to my smallest debt this week of about 40% to clear it, still waiting to hear from the F&F I sent a couple of weeks ago but both of these will not be getting a payment anyway while I play hard ball.

PRA(T) have informed me they have purchased my BC balance in full now so are no longer just agents, and instantly went from nice to full on DCA w@nkers. Have threatened me with Litigation already, so a quick letter to put them in their place and I am on hold again for 30 days. Anyway they are now my biggest debt after the BC 12 month standoff to get the default but at least they are prime for a good F&F later as they won't have paid full whack for it.

Brilliant, wait 2 weeks and get a letter that says Ring this number to discuss your recent settlement offer.

These companies are morons, no matter how many times you tell them in WRITING ONLY they want to phone.

Like I am going to discuss and agree an F&F over the phone? Was I born yesterday.

    It's all so unnecessary.
