    Hi,
I'm just looking for some clarification with regards to AP markers staying on your file for up to 12 years after the debt has been cleared.
Would having a DMP automatically make some creditors default you?
As I'm looking to set up a SC DMP for a few months and then go self-managed, if there was a break in the payments, again would that be likely to cause a default?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,

AP markers remain for 6 years after the debt is settled which is why defaults are preferred as they fall off 6 years from when placed. unfortunately the creditors don't follow any particular pattern, some will default almost straight away and others won't.. I am now fighting with my last creditor to get it defaulted and now have a complaint in with the FOS, if i lose then this will be my first targeted p & f..

Will have to sit tight then x
  • I wrote a letter of complaint to BC as I havent paid them for months and I kept receiving letters saying they will default me and it never happened. I wrote a letter complaining about not being defaulted and gave them 14 days to reply, they havent!

    Whats the next step?

Sorry to hear of all the grief that BC are giving you. I have never had any dealings with them myself but I know from many posters on here that BC rarely 'play nice' and are the bottom of the league for being helpful and understanding. They seem to be a law unto themselves:(

Incidentally, your April suggestion seems totally fair to me. As you haven't even sent your DD instructions to them yet you may be too late for the Feb payment to go out anyway (I think they do it on 1st or 10th according to your choice but I could be mistaken:o). Something in the back of my mind says they can make a later payment but I'm not sure if this is so

If it helps I dont pay by DD as I get paid on the 15th each month but SC do allow standing orders as long as they have the payment before the 19th each month, so I pay on the 16th then they do their thing and the money goes out on the 25th or so to the creditors, Sainsburys were a pain about this but eventually settled down.

    Hope that helps :j:j:j

They should respond to your complaint, but if they don't, or your still not happy, then go to the Financial ombudsman service :

Hi everyone today I have received two letters from separate creditors informing me they are going to default me if I don't pay the outstanding balances? I'm working with SC - what do I do? I have been worrying all day x

    Hi,

Defaults are good, that's what you want to happen.

All perfectly normal, they are automated letters that do not take into account, your DMP.

But they have a legal responsibility to inform you, that's all, its just procedure they must follow.

Do nothing, keep up with your DMP.

    Everything is rosy.

Hi, often these are automated letters which the system sends out when payment isn't received. They may or may not result in a default. Defaults are nothing to worry about, and as Sourcrates rightly says, they are good as usually it means less time with bad credit markers on file.

  • I now it's very premature but one of the ways I keep myself motivated on this long DMP journey is by mentally ticking off how many more months I have before the defaults drop off my credit file:o

Almost 4 years into my DMP and most accounts were defaulted after about 3 months of starting:j. I know when they'll disappear from sight:dance:

All except one, my Asda credit card administered by New Day. I don't think they bought it, they just collect it. They have never defaulted and, according to my Noddle account, have always marked it as DM under the monthly circle. The circles are green rather than red and have always had the initials UC in them. The whole account is marked 'up to date' on the summary page.

Please does anyone know whether this will fall off my file when the debt is paid in full in about 3 years time? Or is it considered to be an AP debt and will still be there for a further 6 years after that? These Noddle markers totally confuse me:o
