  • Just a quickie!

I think I know the answer....we cancelled our StepChange plan after one month and now will gonself managed in the new year.
I've written to the creditors to tell them we have left StepChange and will be doing a financial budget soon!!
A couple have written back with their own budget sheets, but I will be using the NEDCAB website, and some have asked for pay slips and bank statements.
I think I've read we do not have to show them copies??

Don't give them any of this especially your payslips, it's absolutely none of their business.

As Puzz says the IE on the NEDCAB site is all you need to send. It even recommends the amounts you can claim too a bit like the Stepchange one.

    Hi Phoenixx,

I have been self managing since March and started off with the same payments I was paying through SC. But then my car needed work so I dropped them all to 50% for one month and then in September when my DD started uni realised I needed a pot of money to top up the rent so have been paying £5 a month to each since.. I wrote and informed them it would be for 3 months but 6 out of 9 put me on a 6 month plan so that's what I am doing..

Ignore PRat they are full of hot air....

    Love Puzz. x

Hi Puzz - great to hear from you! This is reassuring news. PRAT as I shall now call them are only awkward ones since self managing...but will certainly take your advice and will be prioritising the roof. Will move on the tokens straight after Christmas. Hope your DD is enjoying uni and wishing you a lovely Christmas.

Thanks for great advice as always! :T

Just write and tell PRAT that you will be making token payments. Do not ask them, do not offer them - tell them. Just make the token payments and sit back and wait. Nothing will happen. PRAT may say they won't accept token payments, but in reality they will.

We've been on token payments twice since going self-managed. Both times creditors were all fantastic. Mind you, PRAT are one of our creditors but I am just not paying them at al :rotfl:

Hi Jan - will do! Evermore I will think of them as PRAT - this made me laugh out loud :rotfl:Will move on the tokens with confidence! Thanks for grand advice as ever.

Happy Christmas from phoenixx towers and its soon to be redtored roof!

Hi Jan - we rang insurance about roof. Their response was: 'The wind speed in your area has not been high enough to enable a claim.' As DH pointed out, we believe roof damage a result of hail not wind. Oh well. The guy came out yesterdsy to baton it down before Storm Barbara so there goes our emergency fund.

It is weird to see debt free day getting closer as we have lived this way so long. August 2011 we started the DMP and we have learnt so much since then, often down to this forum. We have not had to drop to token payments since self management so hope it's ok. DH spoke to PRA yesterday who basically said we should leave roof and keep paying! Have you ever dropped to tokens on self managed plan? I'd be interested to hear your experiences.

Have a great Christmas Jan and as 2017 comes around you will be closer to DFD too. :A

Hi Phoenixx, great debt busting progress.

Think I'd be tempted to fight back against the roof insurance since you aren't claiming for wind damage and even if you were, they can't state categorically there was no excess wind in one specific place. Insurance claim reduction people are a bit like DCA and should be treated with the same amount of respect.

Hope you weather the storms ok and put PRAT in their place ASAP :)

    Merry Christmas everyone xx

Thanks Sazzie - merry Christmas to you and hope you are doing well. Insurance company will.get a complaint. I hate their smug indifference...PRAT are also swollen with self importance and petty nonsense.

Have a lovely festive season and thanks for being there.

    Morning all,

Hope everyone has had debt busting and relaxed Christmas break.

    Thought I'd just report a couple of conversations I've had this week;

Me: I'm trying to save for a new sofa
Friend : well you could get one on interest free at the moment
Me: hmmm, I look into that (thinks - must remember to say I couldn't find one I like)

Me: I'm hoping to replace the car soon, although I'm really happy it's passed the MOT without spending much
Brother: there's some great deals about on new cars at the moment
Me: hmmm, yes I'll have a look round in the new year (thinks, not in my price bracket mate!)

I have in the last 18 months told both of these people I'm trying to pay off my debts,(and gat it's been a struggle but without going into details) but they both have well paid jobs and good income and don't suppose they have any clue that my credit rating is zilch, nor that losing my overtime in the next few weeks means a struggle for a while.

But hey ho, I've enough to eat, to pay my bills and heat the house at the moment so I'll just keep aiming for that DFD and hedging conversations like these.

Well done to anyone who can say, or at least hope, they'll be DFD in 2017.

    Saz

    Saz

Hi Saz - I know this situation so well and completely sympathise. Often is people we've mentioned to that we are repaying debt who are the worst. I have lost count of the comments about my car:

'You'd find a brand new one much easier and cheaper to run - why not pick one up?' (I say: 'Well this one starts okay so I will keep it going'.)
'Treat yourself to a mini break - you look like you need it.' (I say: 'Ooh I must look into that one' and do nothing.)
    And my personal favourite:
'You'd get a nice extension on the back if you extended your mortgage.' (I say: 'The kids are older so we don't need the space.'

I have become skilled at getting round these remarks. The worst ones are at work where I must constantly think about my appearance :o I cannot return to a situation where my line manager refers to my 'tired suit' again. Or my shoes.

DH and I wonder how some of them manage to have so many new and shiny things but as you say Saz - we have enough to eat and pay the bills. Roof is temporarily shored up waiting for them to come back to do a proper job. But means at least 2 months token payments. Can't be helped though. And at least as we head for 2017 we can say we should be debt free in 2018.

Happy New Year to you Sazzie.
