My main aim is to be defaulted.

Also, I know I keep asking but can you be defaulted on an overdraft or Next account? I haven't paid anything towards my overdraft for over a year and received no default.

Yes you can, but it would depend on when the bank calls in the loan.

They will wait so long, then ask for the money back, if you don't repay when they ask you, then a default notice will be issued, and once the relationship between lender and borrower breaks down, you will get a default on your credit file also.

Unfortunatly there's no way of knowing when the bank will act.

  • Morning... my first payment to sc is due out today and when I checked first thing (couldn't wait to see it go out!) they haven't taken it out... do you know if this usually goes out at the end of business or if it should have gone out already? Thanks x

I have a Next account- they finally issued a default in June after nearly 2 years since start of DMP, I have had ongoing issues with them since January this year with them adding interest again, inconsistent statement dates ranging from 1 day to 2 weeks???
I was being told one thing but another dept was doing something different.
Next have actually told me to stop paying at the moment so my account goes into arrears so they can set up a long term repayment plan-
I made an official complaint in July, they are trying to put it all right but its still not all sorted out- however I did have an email yesterday saying that my default would be backdated 2 years :j

There was no sign of a default when I first started my DMP with them, after their 6 month review they extended it and the same again at 12 months- it wasn't until this time when they said I had had the maximum they allow for this arrangement that they mentioned a default.

Can you ask to be defaulted?

Re: Next, I hadn't paid anything since Jan and then started a plan with them in June. My balance is just over £400 and my payment plan is only £6 a month. It will take sooooo long to clear hence I would like the default. They have stopped interest.

Re: Argos, same as above. Balance just over £400 and similar amount to be paid but £3ish interest each month so I am going to stop paying them. I just want a shiny default ASAP.

Re: Barclays, reduced interest and I have paid them once in 9 months. No default as yet.

Any advice re the above much appreciated x

I complained to Next that they should have defaulted my account as it had been nearly 2 years that I had been making reduced payments- there are template letters about and I just googled for all the ICO guidelines. I have never not paid anything to them though.
I have a Very account- who fall under Shop Direct which I believe Argos do as well? I had to complain to them to stop interest at first- found a template letter on National Debtline website. They did stop the interest but my recent complaint about adding a default they have refused and say they are reporting my account correctly- as AP markers. Not sure if its worth taking complaint further as they are marking it accurately. I am going to look at going self managed next month and drop to token payments and see if they default me then- I've still got 3 years to go before paid off so would like a default asap.

You could try sending a letter of complaint asking for the account to be defaulted, I know you must write complaint on the letter then they have so long to get back to you- Shop Direct dragged it out but Next were very quick to reply.

I'm sure others can help with letters etc- this is just what I've done so far.

    Hi Tequila

STOP WORRYING right now, your baby is worth much more than your DMP and infinity more than the twerps at Nationwide. Demands for full payment usually preceded a default, so if you're not defaulted already then likely that's all that is coming your way. And/or your debts will move to a DCA. We used to call Saturday's defaults day as that's when the letters used to come out and people would like have a panic as the letters are very confronting and as SCrates says don't take into account the DMP.

So STOP WORRYING, and relax, and best wishes for next stages of pregnancy.

    Saz

P.s. We like baby news on here, so please do share if you get time. Xx

    Thanks Saz!

All sorted now. Called SC, they told me to call Nationwide which I did. Spoke to a lovely lady who said that for some reason my agreement had dropped off hence the letter. She changed everything and got it all sorted for me.

Will let you know baby news as soon as I have it

  • Hey all, i'm a self-confessed loiterer of this site ever since I completed my first DMP back in 2011.

Unfortunately, I'm back on a DMP with my partner owing to some major mis-management of creditors, a lot of which I had no idea about. I won't go into details but I just wanted to say hello and one of the shining lights whilst in these dark days is the support I know that is provided through this forum.

Being in debt isn't a crime, although it regularly feels that there is nothing worse. First step is facing up to the problem. From there it is what you make of it.

    Good luck to you all.

  • Afternoon - I have 2 accounts with Barclaycard (one used to be an Egg card). One with a £9k balance has been defaulted and the other at £5k (which used to be the Egg one) hasn't been defaulted.

Do you think I can ask them to treat both accounts the same and get the 2nd default? Or will I need to continue playing the waiting game?
  • Just coming to the end of a 2 week stay-cation at home and decided to get rid of all the piles of paperwork I've had for years and years. Been a slog and probably another day to go.

Got hold of an old Fujitsu duplex scanner being disposed of from work and found a bit of freeware it worked with. Boy it is a revelation. Shove a pile of papers in and it scans them rapid and both sides at once !! Have to nurse it along as it sticks a bit (reason work dumped it) but have just worked my way through every bit of creditor correspondence since the DMP started, a decade of payslips and P60s all scanned to nice neat folders in my onedrive. Filing cabinet never been so slim.

DMP isn't any smaller but I feel very organised :D

I would certainly do a CCA request for the egg card.

They were notorious in the day for not getting credit agreement signed.
