Quick question - stepchange took my payment at the start of the month but nothing seems to have been passed onto the creditors yet, how long does this usually take?

I think they usually credit creditors on or around the 8th of every month

On their website it says roughly 5 working days but this depends on whether the creditor accepts bank payments or if they want a cheque. If they need a cheque you have the 5 day step change time plus postal times for the cheque then cashing/clearing of the cheque so this could be why. I know how you feel they took my first payment on the 3rd and I was panicking until I saw that :p

    Hi all.

Was wondering how you all budget? I.e the actual recording of it?
I have realised I need to get closer to my repayments as I have no clue what's left on what etc. I do a list on my phone of what needs paid that month and tick it off as it goes out the accounts. What do others do??
Unfortunately no desk top so can't do ynab.
I noticed someone said on here they update a spread sheet every time sc do a statement? That sounds like what I need to do!!

    Hi PC

I track my debts and progress (albeit small) on a spreadsheet, which I update every month from data on Noddle.

I'm rubbish however at keeping track of what I actually spend so I transfer any money I should be saving (for insurance or health, haircuts etc) into various accounts.

I transfer my shopping money into a pre-paid credit card and my fuel money onto a separate pre-paid (both fee free), this way I should at least know if I'm starting to run out of money. It also means if a crisis crops up I have a bit of cash stashed away (savings accounts). Prepaid credit cards are not, protected the same as bank accounts so I try to be careful not to leave much money there for long, I.e I'll fill up with fuel pretty quick after the money goes in the account, also stops me blowing it on junk food. It's only of a banking crash were to happen, but I recall what happened with a Christmas club once some years ago.

I'd like to stash my saved budget in a non accessible account as I have no will power and can dip into on a whim, but as I say I least I know I'm doing it.

Hope this gives you some ideas of what may or may not work for you. Debtors anonymous stalwarts advise you record everything you spend but I can't seem to get in the routine of that.

    Quiet today on here?

Notice we don't seem to get default Saturday's any more, or so we just expect them on a Saturday now maybe.

  • Morning everyone. I've not posted for a while but 14 months in and everything is going OK with the Dmp. It's tough at times being on a strict budget but I do quite like the feeling of only buying what we really need! Anyway the reason I'm posting is we have just applied for a £5 a month sim only deal mobile phone contract with ID but have failed the credit check. Both me and hubby have 02 contracts but we have only upgraded whilst on the dmp. We wanted a cheap sim only deal for our boy who starts high school this year, does anyone know which companies, if any, are less strict or whether we will struggle to get one? I'm sure I've read of people having no trouble with switching mobile providers but maybe I've dreamt that. Thanks ☺

My partner failed a credit check for EE and was told to apply for vodafone as they are less strict - he was accepted by them. His problem was lack of credit history rather than DMP though so hopefully someone else will be along to advise too :-)

    Hi all
So I started my dmp in January and all has been ok so Far. However yesterday I got a copy of a letter from rbs to stepchange saying that I hadn't kept up with the agreed payment even though I have and that if SC don't contact them within 14 days to confirm they're still representing me then they'll remove their name and send my details to debt collecting agency or solicitors. I'm quite worried now as I don't want them knocking at my door. I've emailed SC so waiting for their response but wondered if anyone had had a similar letter.

    Hi,
I would give them both a ring to find out what has happened, emails can sometimes take too long to get a response. I always rang sc and then followed it up with a call to the creditor. It will just be an oversight somewhere, easily dealt with.

  • I am just trying to finalise my self managed DMP through NEDCAB and am copying over finances listed on SC to their forms. There is nowhere to list some things (like on the SC one) for example, hobbies, emergencies, hair etc.... where do I put these? Obviously I am trying to inflate some figures to allow wriggle room. Thanks

    Hi,

Just increase any of the categories to ensure you cover all your 'outgoings'. Nedcab's financial statement is not as detailed as sc so you will need to inflate other categories..
