And so they should be to be fair! Honestly 2 of my credit cards have recently been removed from the dmp as repaid and both credit cards companies upped my limits... One of them actually doubled my limit!!! Crazy isn't it!

I need to get back on top of my dmp now tho and reading some of these posts has spurred me on as I have no idea who I'm paying on it now and what the balances are.. In fact there may be another one that's paid off and I'm still paying to it. Need to get back on top of it just for my own knowledge.

I believe that's classed as irresponsible lending on the creditors part. If you can't be trusted (I can't), ask the lenders to close the account to future borrowing. It's tough, buts it's the only way I'll learn.

Why what did you buy? I certainly used my cards just pre -DMP as I had no other way to buy food, fuel etc? That's why I had to go to DMP.

Highly judgemental of them, justified or no, only you would know. Either way I think SC will say keep paying and just ignore the rejection. Problem of course is the interest, you can fight it by writing to explain/complain or maybe you might have to go self managed and cut the payments down, but that's probably in the future.

Thankyou for your reply :) I had paid my monthly instalment of £35 to them when the DMP was not in my mind at all fast forward a couple of weeks when I realised that yet again we couldn't afford food for the month etc was when I decided to do the DMP etc. However in my mind I saw that £35 as mine and spent it on petrol and food over the space of a couple of days and a trip to superdrug to buy essential items. that was all it was used for yet they are saying that is why they are going to continue charging me interest I find that so unfair its untrue as had I known they would do that I would have borrowed that £35 from family

    Hi all :)

Just been reading the weekly MSE email about remortgaging. Has anyone done this successfully on a DMP? We are on the SVR and have been for ages so probably overpaying but I'm guessing this is now off limits because of DMP? We have four debts: joint loan which has defaulted, my c/c which has defaulted, my store card which is arrangement to pay and DH c/c which is arrangement to pay.

    Many thanks

Well...just about to draft the letter to BC to try and get the interest stopped and they send us a letter, saying that they think we have broken our agreement (because we had to pay £5 a month for 3 months when I was out of work, but they had been informed and said they were ok with it), so they have decided to increase our interest to 25%.....now they really are going to get a nice letter!!!!

Could anyone give a current view on the information available to letting agents conducting their credit searches.

Is it still that they can only see publicly available information such as CCJs, IVAs and bankruptcy?

As far as I am aware that is still the case.

No one can view your credit file without your permission, little thing called the data protection act.

I've also wondered if this will be possible... I'm on a horrendous rate (over 11% on a mortgage:eek: ) But I have approx 65% equity.so curious if it might be possible. We will see!

  • Hi guys, first post here!!
My DMP is just over a year old with payplan, I think my debt free date (hopefully!!) is June 2019, my question is one of my creditors if 'Very' and my debt with them stands at approx £850, I am still able to log into my account with them online and check my payments are being made and amount due is coming down etc, can I make extra one off payments by logging into my account online? For example, my birthday is coming up, If I am given any money could I pay this off this creditor?
I'm guessing payplan would say no as I only have 2 creditors and they are paid pro rata plus extra payments may suggest I have extra spare cash? Just thought I'd ask your advice seen as you seem such a knowledgeable bunch!

If you are just switching rates with the same lender you should be fine. Most don't carry out any searches if you are moving from svr to a new rate.
We have just done ours and got 1.64% no questions asked.
If you are looking to remortgage to another lender then you will struggle as credit checks will be carried out etc.
There is talk of lenders having to carry out new credit checks when existing customers are switching and there are some stories of folk not being able to do but for now most lenders will carry out a rate switch. You don't want to be on svr if you don't need to be as prob over paying.

I do work in this industry which makes my predicament worse as i should know better!!!
