    Hi Guys.

    New here :)

Just set up a dmp with stepchange for about 24 thousand paying £477 per month... few different credit card companys.

just got a letter from stepchange saying halifax have rejected the dmp... is there anything i can do should i ring or write to halifax?

    cheers

    Hello and welcome,

Think HfxBoS reject DMP as their default stance. As others have said, ignore it any keep paying. Unlikely they'll do anything else.

I pay considerably, less £130 currently, on around the same debt over 5 creditors, nothing bad has happened or been threatened.

Oh and I had a nice surprise in the post today. A Cheque for £130 from Sentinel Card Protection Compensation.

Got a letter a while back which I just signed, remembered it was on a card for a couple of years before I noticed and cancelled.

Better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick :rotfl::rotfl:

Nice win, treat or debt repayment?

Couple of questions for you wise ones:

    1) Two of our debts (husband's overdraft and my bank loan) do not show at all on my Noddle or Experien credit records. I presume that this means they are not being reported and therefore it doesn't matter what their status is in terms of defaulted / AR etc ???

    2) I am looking at getting things defaulted as early as possible. I have read the ICO guidance on their website dated Jan 2014 about what the appropriate records are - this suggests if you are in a DMP you should not be defaulted unless you are paying a nominal payment, if you are paying an amount acceptable to the creditor they should just put you on as DMP. The gist seems to be that DMP is not as bad as a default, however, given that DMP is on for 6 years after you complete your DMP clearly that means that your credit record shows issues for much longer on a DMP - this seems unfair but is clearly supported by the ICO Guidance. On here people seem to want the defaults and I have been planning to fight for this, but just wondered if DMP is that bad on your credit record - any thoughts ???

    Thanks

    Hi Gilman,
Apologies I forget is yours a new DMP or have you had it a while?
I just wonder if the missing debts are being tranferred to a DCA as sometimes they disappear and reappear later on Noddle.

The main difference in default v DMP /AP marker is that defaults fall off after 6 years from default date (hence earlier is better), and DMP/AP markers fall off 6 years from end of debt. If future credit is nit an issue to You then it's probably not a problem, but if you wanted to get mortgage/car credit or something in the future (and remember it affects the rate you might get as well as if you get the credit ) then probably best to go for defaults where you can.

As TTFTM says, not all debts will get defaulted.

    Saz

I wanted to add my thanks to the many people who have helped us on our journey so far.

I spoke with StepChange for the first time today as I wanted to double check my figures and generally chat through a few things.

The advisor was so impressed by my knowledge he thought I'd done a DMP before! I was pleased to tell him all my info had come from the dear amateurs at DMP support thread who give their time and advice cost and judgement free.

We are at the beginning of our odyssey (journey sounds too short :rotfl:) and already I feel better and more in control.

    Have a great weekend all.

    Hi Muppet,

I think we often know more than the banking call centre people too and it's often good to remember this if anyone needs to contact them.

How I laugh when the tell me they might default me :rotfl:

Had my first predator get in touch since letting them all know I am leaving SC and going self-managed so now to get that first CCA request sent. Just a quick question regarding the £1 postal orders. I've only just found out they cost 70p so that's a lot of £1.70's. We still have a very rarely used account that has a cheque book. If my husband signs the cheques for my predators and I sign the ones for his and we only use PO's for the joint debts will they accept them?

I agree with everyone else here about the amount of help and advice that is given freely on this board. Without some great contributors a lot of us would be in a much bigger mess than we already are. Thank you all.

Great to hear from you Growurown!! :)

So glad all is going well for you. Enjoy the new phone - hope it's a right proper flashy one!! :D

    Take care,

    BDFSH x

Thanks! It's not terribly flashy as MSE money saving habits are a way of life now:money: However it has a touch screen and no buttons:D Makes texting so much easier, and I have discovered Whatsapp too.
I know that feeling Growurown and I'm still on my DMP:eek: I was offered a far better deal for my TV, phone & Broadband which would save me some money each month so I decided to apply. Everything was fine until the operator said "We are just going to do a credit check..." I panicked and tried to back out of the whole thing but in the end the check was done and I passed:o
I was bothered that this will be viewed as taking more credit or the embarrassment of being rejected but I figured that the amount I'm saving each month is a good thing and could go towards my debt's (unfortunately this won't happen as the Council Tax and Gas/Electric has gone up:()

Yes everything goes up doesn't it? It's hard to keep up, but a lot of things necessary for modern life involve credit, like phones, broadband, car insurance etc. All through my DMP I paid for my car insurance on monthly payments which is still taking out credit, but essential for just getting on with a normal life.

I paid back everything too like you TTFTM. Of course that didn't include the interest that got stopped, but I didn't in the end go for any F&F payments. I reckon that the amount of money the banks have stolen from their customers over the years with their dodgy schemes like PPI etc. they don't deserve the interest:rotfl:

Thanks Sazzie, I'm 2 and a half years in and one of these accounts has just been transferred to Wescot but the other has been transferred since almost the beginning. I vaguely remember a few years ago when I was starting to worry about debt and got a free Experien report that one wasn't on the report and as it was my biggest debt I wonder if this is why I was able to get even more credit.

BTW I can't work out how to quote part of someone's post - am I being thick ?!

So maybe that debt will reappear, and maybe it won't lol.

Re quotes - The only way I know is to click on 'quote' and then manually delete the bits I don't want to appear. I think it's easier of you just highlight and paste the bits you want to take out but my tablet gets me in a real knot and tries to delete all the wrong bits:D

Probably some young gadget person will have a much better way to do it.

I have this situation too. Unfortunately there are three main credit reference agencies and the predators do not necessarily all enter data on all three of them. If you were looking for credit I'm not sure they are necessarily all checked either  !! This may explain it :).

You can check CallCredit free by signing up for Noddle and Equifax free by signing up to Clearscore. I pay £2 every now and then for a statutory report to check Experian - if you can get it free well done :) !!

I'll just post once more on this thread, then I'll say no more.

Although I'm sure brogden can speak for himself, I feel I must speak up in his defence, I thing he was trying to convey his own struggle with his concience, there was no insult meant to anyone.

To beat the devil, you must become the devil.

It's all too easy to take offence on an Internet forum, especially when you can't hear the tone of the OP's voice.
I feel partially responsible as I am somewhat more militant in my approach to debt and creditors in general, and I fear this is the wrong thread to express those thoughts.

Thanks for the supportive words Sourcrates. In no way at all are you partly responsible for anything unfortunate which may have transpired. It is only this morning after a little rest that I actually ‘get’ the message in this post :(.

I do think all of the legals are relevant to us and if we are concerned or worried about debt then it is good idea that we study, learn and discuss things a bit. It is like anything else in life really. Some people do and some don’t bother.

I am not necessarily suggesting that anybody is disagreeing with what I say here but sometimes one has to conclude that some things which come about are just ‘all part of life’s rich tapestry.’ :)
