bmw 2004 530d - aged well?

Saw this bmw on the road and was really surprised it had a 04 plate. It look really up to date. I remember when this bmw first came out back then and it used to get a lot of slack for not looking like a BMW and deviating away form BMWs iconic looks. But 11 years on it seems that it was just way ahead of its time and look pretty current even today.

Reminds me of a Rover 75.

Rover was owned by BMW at the time.

The BMW e60 and the Rover 75 were both aimed at roughly the same buyer group.

The 75 diesel had the M47R BMW 2 litre engine.

And a radiator made from marzipan that melted and blew the nice engine.
I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • I'd say the E60 5 series still looks good today. I think when Chris Bangle designed it, he was ahead of his time. It took a while for people to get to grips with the "flame" surfaces on the panels but I think it's a well proportioned car. Been eyeing up M5s recently too.

Do you mean on the BMW or the ROver? Or did they have the same radiator? Tell me more.
I don't like morning people. Or mornings. Or people.
  • Going back a generation I really like the E39 530i Msport. Owners say they are really fine cars that keep going. Would consider getting one if it wasnt for the high running costs.

I took a while to get over the Bangle, one-style-for-every-car design, but it has worn well and once you put proper sized wheels and tyres in the big wheel-wells, they are excellent cars.

Funny, i've been looking at them and have been thinking they are really showing their age now and look quite tired.

The 2007 Facelift LCI model fares better, and M Sport spec rather than SE improves the look too.

Given the price that is being asked for early cars, their ability to much turbos and crack manifolds, and other expensive repairs, i sell little appeal.

    I've got a 2002 e39 525, and it is just a great car.
