How many floors do I have?.....

Just got an insurance quote asking if I have: two floors or more than two floors in my home. I'm not sure it's obvious to me. :o

I walk through the front door and my living area is there. I walk up a flight of stairs to the 3 bedrooms. I can then walk up a further flight to the loft bedroom. Do I have 2 or 3 floors in my home??

Can you access the loft bedroom from a hallway or is it only accessible through another bedroom.
I lived in a house with a loft conversion but it was only accessible through the master bedroom so it didn't count as a bedroom or a third storey just a two storey and loft.

    3.

It doesn't matter whether the loft is only accessible through another bedroom; it might not count as a bedroom but it is still habitable space - and more stringent fire safety regulations apply to dwellings with 3+ storeys.

Thanks everyone - I'll put 3 floors down to be on the safe side - otherwise someone in a bungalow would have zero floors!

    ^^ This.

Don't confuse "First floor" with "one floor".

The issue for you is whether the loft conversion counts as a floor. If it's a proper conversion, with a staircase and a habitable room, I'd say yes, but you could always phone the insurer and ask them. That's the best thing to do if there's ever a question you're unsure about when getting a quote.
