Hi,
I was using 0844 number to call India but now BT has started charging for these numbers.
Can anyone please suggest some cheap way to call India? (Not using skype or whatsapp) and except international sims where you have to top up monthly.
Thanks

BT have always charged for 0844 calls they have never been inclusive. The only things thats changed is they way the are charged from 1/7/2015.
If you have inclusive minutes. Consider someone like https://www.localphone.com. Where they allocate you a normal 01/02 number that points at your indian target numbers. Its a prepaid account. You get a free test call. No contacts or hidden charges you pay for call normally at a decent rate.0 -
Yes, you are right but the charges have increased from 01/07, hence looking for alternatives.0

Or if you have not got inclusive minutes use a supplier like planet-talk who have a prepaid account with a freephone access number.0

Thanks. I shall give this a go.
Also found TALK HOME. Will try that as well.0 -

Second time I recommend Sipgate today, 4.9p/min to India. You'll need a VOIP phone or router though.0 -
Thanks.
You are right about TALK HOME. You are charged even if no one picks up but that was true with 0844 numbers are well. It was acceptable as it was cheap.
Just read terms of TALK HOME - they have setup fee, maintenance charge/ day hence will try LocalPhone only.0 -
If your landline or mobile provider has set a large Access Charge for calls to 084, 087 and 09 numbers, look for a dial-through provider with an 020, 03 or 080 number.wongawonga wrote: »BT have always charged for 0844 calls they have never been inclusive.
