Sky on Demand - free?

Hi,
I have recently taken up the Sky broadband deal which gives just a phone line and broadband.
In the blurb that came with it it talks about Sky On Demand TV programming and being able to plug my router into my Sky box.
Please does anyone know if I can access this free or whether I need a subscription?
I have tried it and the message on the TV tells me I need to "insert my Sky viewing card" - I don't have one of these - have never had a Sky subscription, just use the Sky box to pick up free digital channels as I don't have a TV aerial.
If I cannot get free Sky on Demand is there a similar service I could get now that I have home broadband?
Many thanks

Nothing for free - well, not legally. Unless you just want 4od, ITV, BBC etc0

The cheapest option is a Now TV box (£10 one-off cost). This offers a number of catch-up services, and also has options for Sky subs.0

On Demand is free with any Sky TV subscription (as is Sky Go)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Yes. They say it's free but T&Cs apply and one of those is a subscription.
When you think about it, there'd be no need to take out a subscription if you could watch their content without one.0
