Faulty Product - 'consequential' damages?

Hi,
I bought a rucksack to use as cabin baggage. The bag weighed no more than 6kg when packed but it ripped open when I got to the airport.

A new bag was quite expensive in France so I bought some needles and thick thread to fix and reinforce the bag, which worked. I know I'm entitled to a refund as the bag was faulty but under what clause of the SOGA am I able to claim the cost of the needle and thread back from the retailer, if I am at all?

    Was the bag faulty or did you pack too much in and strain the area where it ripped? How expensive was the needle and thread ??

    Probably should have put that!
    The bag was £10 and the needle & cotton was 8.1eur (nearly £6) so I wouldn't be getting that much of a refund if I only got the cost of the bag back.

    The bag wasn't even full and it ripped around the zips and away from the lining.

    If the contents of the bag had spilled out, fallen in a patch of oil and been run over by an airport bus, that probably would be consequential damage.

    I'm not sure paying nearly 6 quid for something to repair the bag would be classed as that and presumably you still have a needle and maybe some thread left, so you could, I suppose, try and charge them for the thread used to carry out the repair at whatever price per centimetre it works out at?
    Another problem is, they may say you've damaged the bag by repairing it yourself. How long have you had this £10 bag?

    It was brand new, first use. Thats partly why I want to get something refunded on it, if it had been used lots of times then I wouldn't be too bothered.

    Thanks for the advice though, I'll let you know if I hear back from the retailer.
