Is this correct?

Hi

My hubby was involved in a car accident on 4 August with our car, he phoned the insurance company straight away informing them on what had happened. I phoned the company on the 6 Aug to sort out a hire car, and to find out what was happening with our vehicle (hubby was bought back by the RAC, has not sure our car was in a condition to drive), I was told that I would receive a phone call with in the hour from the salvage company to arrange collection, they would then send photos of the damage to insurance company. At the end of last week hubby again phoned insurance company has we were still waiting for the phone call from the salvage comany to collect the car, he was told that it would be collected by today (wed) at the latest. Yesterday I got a call from the hire car company saying that the hire car had to be returned by the 20 Aug on instructions from the insurance company, phoned them last nite and spoke to the hire car side and they informed hubby that a cheque had been done already has our car was classed as beyond economic repair. How can they decide this when no-one has seen the car, it is STILL sat on my driveway and NO-ONE has even been to look at it. Is this the way things are done? I phoned them this morning and they told me yet again I would receive a phone call shortly from the salvage company and the cheque was for £875, we paid £1995 for the car in April from a motor dealer, can we question the amount they are paying out? has it seems rather a small amount, we were fully comp insurance.

Any coments would be greatly received

    Hi,

I had an accident in Jan 2003 and my car was written off (not my fault). Firstly you need to gather together as many adverts as you can verifying that the replacement cost of your vehicle is higher than what they have offered. I would imagine that if the car was bought in april you should be able to prove that its worth at least £1750. I was told by an insurance friend to not accept the first off unless you are happy. The insurance company didnt send me a cheque until I had agreed the settlement. Unfortunately the hire car has to be surrendered as soon as you get the first offer. I luckily borrowed a family members car for the time being.

    Hope this helps.

    Pam
