Stone floor help

We have stone flag floors throughout our house, there is no DPC and I'm wanting to put solid wood flooring ( not chealp mdf stuff ) in to the living room, due to original fixtures it would be difficult to put a timber frame down and fix the new floor onto that. Is there anything I can paint onto the stone to stop any damp ( which we don't have much considering it's been down a few hundred years )

Are you sure the floor is stone?
IME fossilised cow manure looks pretty much like stone when it's been polished by a few centuries of family feet.
If it's fossilised cow muck, then it'd be the easiest thing in the world to just apply warm water to soften it, then rip the whole lot up to replace with your flooring of choice.
If it truly is a stone floor, then I'd advise you check with your LA that it's not a listed building.
P.S. What's the differance between a DPC & a DPM?0 -
