Recessed shelf in bathroom

We are just planning our bathroom renovation, and one of the things I'd love is a recessed shelf alongside our bath for all the bits and bobs. (And candles for the mrs!). The bath is going to run alongside the outside wall which is solid, and planned to have new thermal boarding and skimming.

Is it possible to create a recess within this? Or would it need to be a stud wall?

Any advice greatly appreciated
Steve

really needs to be a stud wall, whatever type of outer wall you have - old style solid brick or new style breeze block, there wont be enough thickness to get a good enough recess.

And be careful with the candles on a recess like that, most contractors who work for insurance companies say the majority of their work come from bathroom fires stated by candles left in bathrooms and catching surrounding surfaces
