Cost of buying the toner after is always a thing to take a look at. they last ages on most printers 2000 sheets plus but can cost a fair bit to buy.

For simplicity I would buy an hp, depending on how much you plan to print low quantities you can buy the 1000 series like the 1018 or 1020 and 1022 really cheap to buy and toners are about £35-40 which isnt too bad. the printers are cheap enough to buy a new one when it fails 2-3 years down the line. I do know one that is still running after about 3 years now. pretty good considering the low purchase cost. price per page is about 4p iirc

If your print larger volumes then you need to go further up the range as the toners get bigger they fit more toner in and p per page prices drop but they cost more to buy and the toners cost a little more but they last for more pages.

If your printing huge volumes then let us know and I can advise you better.

My printing needs are about 10 sheets per day at most. Cost is a big priority. 35 to 40 quid for a refill sounds a lot, I have seen some lasers on ebuyer and dabs in the 50 to 80 pound range.

Have a "google" for a Samsung 1610 or a 2010 (I think) , both are available for under £50 and are excelent value. I have a 1610 which churns out at least 20 A4 a day for the last 12 months, and is still going strong on the original toner cartridge. The catridge can be refilled for around £7, easy peasy.

Toner cartridges are more expensive than ink, however they last for much longer. Have a look on eBay or classifieds for an old network laser like the ones mentioned above. I've got an old Apple Laserwriter 600 that my old company gave me. It's 13 years old, has ethernet and I'm still on the toner cartridge I installed about 3 years ago (although obviously that depends on use).

The HP1018/20 and 22 have a 2000 page toner 10 pages a day 200 days of use so nearly a year for £36 not too bad really. and you get a rapid and very compact little printer.

hey you can get the HP 1005 MFP for about the same as the printers at dabs. not bad if your looking for a coppier/scanner as well.

the samsungs have larger toners but also larger price tags, £77 for a 4000 page toner for the ML3050 the printer is only £2 more
