Hi
Does anyone have any suggestions on a good first car for someone who has just passed their test?
Thanks

Or at the other extreme: Citroen C1? VW Up? Seat Mii?
Anything small with a small engine to keep the insurance costs down.0 -
Id recommend getting something cheap that you don't mind scratching, for the first year at least. Chances are you'll have a bump or two, hopefully just with stationary objects!0

I would suggest a Nissan Micra. I have had Nissans since 1988, all bar one were sub 2k, and have only ever raised the bonnet to fill the washer bottle. The only time I broke with tradition was with a brand new pile of scrap with a Renault Clio badge on the front. Soon went back to the old faithfuls.0

nissan now is the same stuff as renault- shocker I know!
And micra is terrible terrible terrible car although the old ones were quite reliable.0 -
An old Volvo estate, that was my first car and was considerably cheaper to insure then any of the traditional first cars (fiestas, corsa etc) despite having a 2.5 TD engine0

And if you crash it you (probably) won't die
I think Jeremy Clarkson recommended this once on Top Gear, we are keeping our XC70 until our 8 year old passes his test then he can have it

I was in need of a cheap & cheerful car about 7 years ago, so I bought a 2003 Clio 1.2 Dynamique.
The only money I spent on it (other than annual servicing, MOT and a leaky sunroof) was for issues of 'wear & tear' (clutch, brakes, tyres, bulbs). Low cost servicing and repair, and I ran mine to 120k (I drove about 60k) before upgrading 6 months ago.
Not many cars lower for insurance and 45-50mpg.0 -

How much do you want to spend?
How much driving will you do, and what sort?
How old are you?
Do you have anyone who could be named drivers on your insurance?
Where do you live?
Do you have a family?0
