British gas quote to replace and MOVE a combi boiler - competitive?

Hello

We have a two-up two-down terraced house, quite small, in central London. Our boiler is about twenty years old and has been kept going with lots of British Gas insurance visits and swearing...

The time has come to replace it and we want to move it out of the 'spare room' and down to the small porch. This involves pipework from upstairs going down through the kitchen, through a big wall, out to the porch, porch wall (plasterboard) being reinforced and a new electric spur being run out through the wall as well - and of course new flue exit through boards of the porch

The quote we have includes 'discount' for dead boiler, loyalty etc and one year complementary homecare 200.

Price is £3746.74 all in.

including:

HIVE single channel thermostat
water treatment, power flush, 'Worcester filling loop' (we have the magnetic thing that supposedly keeps crud out of circulation but never had a 'power flush'
two replacement themostatic radiator valves
new fused electric spur
relocation
Worcester Bosch Greeenstar 25i ErP, connected etc

Is this competitive? It's a big cost to us to get more quotes!

Thanks :-D

In a word NO, British Gas are always far more expensive than anyone else, get at least two more quotes from Gas Safe registered independent installers.

Agree with above; I would think about £1,000 too much.

Why is it 'a big cost to us' to get a quote? An estimate from any RGI installer should be free.

oh, because we both have to book time off work which is hellishly difficult and quite financially expensive

Most RGIs will visit evenings/weekends for a major job estimate.

definitely worth me asking, thanks. I've now emailed all these details to a few local people - will see what comes back!

Seems like a competitive quote for BG to be fair, in comparison to other BG prices i have seen.

But you could find someone to do it cheaper.

Typically BG will be quoting 40% more than a local independent RGI.

I have a similar sort of house in London E17 and have been using the same local firm to service it for several years. On their last visit in January 2015 , I asked for a rough idea of the cost of replacement so that I would know for the future. He said £2000. That is for a Combi but wouldn't involve moving it to a new location.

Only 20 years old? mine is over 35 years old...
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
