I agree with voucherman both Acclaim and Indorex work well and one treatment will last for 9-12 months.

The cat is your best solution. Indorex is good too but it's going to be around an 18 month battle (the fleas' life cycle).

Get something better than frontline, either adantix/advocate/stronghold or whatever. Let the cat go everywhere in the house. Any fleas you have missed and the ones that hatch later will get on the cat and be killed.

Obviously, don't miss any doses of the flea treatments! Don't even be late :)

Whatever you do, be careful if you search for advocate on eBay.

Apologies if this would be better placed on the Pets section.

My ever loving cat has brought us fleas as a gift. It's our own fault as we lapsed with the flea treatment (now up to date - and not Frontline which we have been told is less effective as fleas have become resistant). So far we have
    • Used flea powder throughout the house (twice)
    • Washed all possible soft furnishing / cushions / bedding etc.
    • Sprayed all non washable items (the sofa, curtains, mattresses)
    • Washed all soft toys that are washable
    • Stuck all non washable soft toys in the freezer
    • Will be shampooing all our carpets tomorrow
Am now at the point where I don't think there is anything else we can do - but still the little beasts are being spotted by my OH - and my youngest has dozens of bites. We only spotted the issue on Saturday so is it too soon for them to have been beaten? Has anyone got any recommendations for additional treatments we could use? (Have resisted the idea of Immacing the cat.... so far).

(and apologies if I've got you all itching).

    Thanks in advance.

Thank you all for your advice and recommendations.

After a not very relaxing Friday night, Saturday and Sunday morning I can report that for we haven't seen any of the little !!!!ers. Although I suspect we will see them again when the heating kicks in.

We cleared the house of furniture and moved number 2 son's pet millipedes to the grandparent's - shampoo'd all the carpets (they were due, judging by the colour of the water they were very much due). All soft furnishings into the garden and flea sprayed. All cushion covers, blankets and bedding washed on a hot wash, matresses sprayed.

Once the carpets were dry, all of them treated with flea spray.

Am pretty sure this was overkill, but at least some of the itching was in our heads - there's nothing like fleas for making you think you've seen them everywhere!

Again, thank you for your advice and recommendations - apologies for what must have been the least interesting update in the history of MSE.

Oh - and the cat? Showed us his eternal gratitude for clearing his itch by bringing us a still alive enormous goldfish and dumping it on the newly changed bed. It's a good job he's cute - that poor fish.

I use a system called program...its an injection that is given to the cat every 6 months by the vet.

It works by disabling the reproductive ability of the flea after they have bitten the cat and therefore breaks the flea cycle...
Initially it takes a while to rid the fleas so you need to use another treatment as well but imo its brilliant for keeping them away once it kicks in.

Have a google of it,its not for everyone but we havent had a flea in the 10 years our cat has been having the injections.

sounds like you are getting on top of it.

was also going to say make sure you concentrate on the room/carpet edges and edges of furniture where they like to 'hide' in the crevices
