Credit Card Booking Fees/Surcharges

Hi

I'm wondering if anyone can help please?

If I book a holiday on my credit card and the holiday company charges me a fee for booking i.e 2.5% for using a credit card. If this holiday is then subsequently cancelled and I have been told I will get a full refund, am I entitled to the booking / surcharge fee to be refunded also?

Thanks

You'd need to read the terms as whilst there is a law around what fees they can charge I dont believe there is a law surround refunds directly.

Fees are supposed to be proportional to the costs they incur. As long as they actually put it through as a refund then the direct fees they've had to pay would be refunded to them and so in theory probably should be passed back though as fees must be proportional rather than identical then a small amount could in theory be retained.

That is handling charge. I don't think those fee can be refund...

Are you going to buy travel insurance? in that case, the travel insurance should cover cancellation.
  • I had my holiday to Sharm cancelled due to recent events, the agent I booked through is refunding me minus the charges. Surely this can't be right, I didn't ask for the cancellation, yet I'm out of pocket because of it. Any help out there?

I think the full price you paid has to be refunded. Especially as, I am pretty sure, the 'agent' gets the fees back from the CC company when making a refund. Stick to your guns and if they keep refusing to make a full refund consider

A long time ago now but I booked a holiday through Virgin Holidays where we were due to fly to USA five days after September 11.

When they refunded me they refunded all fees and the travel and car hire excess insurance I bought with the holiday.
  • I don't think that kind of charge can be refunded since it is considered as handling fee and is charged every credit card transaction.

    Every?!
So, if I pay by CC in Tesco/Aldi/Sainsbury's/Wilko... and then return the item, will they refund less then the original price?

It's a rhetoric question as I am sure it will be the full price.
