Shockwave Flash Plug in Problem

Hi,
My PC is running extremely slowly. It especially crashes when I load a browser and webpages - I've tried Google Chrome and Firefox.
One regular message I get when webpages stall is that the Shockwave FlashPlug In has stopped working.
Please can any one help me resolve this? I don't even know what this is or how to find it to uninstall and reinstall, assuming I can do so?
Many thx for any help.

I've had a few issues with this too. For Firefox check your plugin state .

Change the settings in either of these browsers to only load Flash on request - you'll get a big grey box anywhere it should be, which you can right-click and say load. Saves it loading all the time for stupid adverts etc.
In Firefox - Options, Add-Ons, Plug-Ins, and at Shockwave Flash change the little drop-down to 'Ask to Activate'.0 -
Many thanks for the helpful suggestion, I will try that, although my gut reaction was that it was either something I should have selected to work "all the time". Or that I need to delete and reload it - is it something like an app or add on that you must refresh from time to time? And can I find a free download somewhere.
Not even sure what it is for - but I'm finding that my online banking frequently crashes now so that must be dependent on it as well?0 -
